“I have no one, no son or brother, to help me out. I’m just a good-for-nothing old man.”

Everyone deserves to live a life of dignity, especially elderly people who’ve worked their entire lives and can no longer provide for themselves. There are so many consequences to a country’s negligence of not raising the pension of retired, elderly citizens to a sufficient wage, making them more vulnerable to exploitation.

If one does not have a system to help them…

“No fue mi culpa.”

At the turn of the century, more than fifty years after Texas had, through war, won its independence from Mexico, two cultures—the Anglo and the Mexican—lived side by side in a state of tension and mistrust. This is a true story out of that era.

Sometimes you gotta just let the weird guy hang out, you never know what’ll happen if you don’t.

I cried laughing at one particular moment and I keep chuckling to myself when I think of it.

Just the boys getting real rowdy, cracking some skulls, overthrowing the Monarchy. I can only imagine the euphoric adrenaline rush of finally fighting back against your oppressor.

A foundational work for filmmaking history. Eisenstein the God. The man who used mass culture ethically and knew its true power for political movement.

The Odessa massacre scene is so enthralling yet horrifying. The emotion on display translate so well despite the silent format. There’s no wonder films were so important for the Soviet Union’s propaganda when you have someone as effective and masterful as Eisenstein.

Poor Things

Poor Things is a complex film surrounding many topics:
 ⁃ Liberation through education
⁃ The ethics of marriage and monogamy i.e. ownership of women
 ⁃ Bodily autonomy
⁃ Changing the world through dialectal materialism

I’m absolutely stunned. Maybe top two or three of the past year for me. Easily the best visuals of 2023. One of the most beautiful looking films I’ve ever seen.

I found Bella Baxter to be incredibly charming and irable. I relate to her unquenchable desire for learning and evolving as a person. Emma Stone gives one of the best of her career. I adored this film.
