Dune: Part Two

2024

★★★★½ Liked

Watched this for the second time in 70mm. That opening scene is so so gorgeous. There’s so many points where the movie foreshadows to the ending and callbacks to part one, especially when he has visions of a potential friendship with Jamis and mistakes Chani for Jamis when crossing the desert. Realising that “May thy knife chip and shatter” and the knife salute comes from Jamis and Duncan, his potential best friend and his actual best friend. Another example of this is when he sees the knife that kills Feyd-Rautha in the future or with how many tiny details like him telling his mother that he believes in revenge unlike his father, and the Emperor calling Leto Atreides weak because of his heart.

Some scenes hit differently on a second watch, especially when he stands on the grandfather sandworm or when he wakes up from the dead, the 70mm film makes the water of life scenes absolutely stunning. I might give it another watch before it leaves theatres.
