"Photography is truth. Cinema is truth twenty-four times per second."
My rating system is as coherent as the Rambo movie titles.
Crazy how a great director can elevate an unremarkable script.
Sam Raimi is firing on all cylinders here, using every cinematic trick from the bag and then some. What could've been a very forgettable western becomes instead an exhilarating exercise in visual style that we can't keep our eyes away from.
The rest of the heavy lifting is done by the star-studded cast, particularly Gene Hackman (who's basically playing the same character as in Unforgiven), Russel Crowe and a young Leonardo Di Caprio.
