Buzz riding shotgun with his seatbelt buckled while Woody is sloshing around in the trunk is some of the funniest stuff in cinema history
]]>Isn’t Harrison Ford a little young to be President of the United States?
]]>One of those films that you go into with impossibly high expectations and it still somehow manages to exceed them.
Wonder if this was a big inspiration for Past Lives ?
]]>Disappointed they didn’t tell us which American city they planned to sacrifice in that hilarious scheme. Imagine how dissatisfied the world leaders would be knowing that they lost London, Paris etc and the US offered Lumberton, NC as tribute.
An awesome third act makes you forget how boring a lot of the rest of this movie is. But that plane stunt is really Tom’s cherry on top to this franchise. Absolutely incredible to watch. Someone pls do a fan cut of this and dead reckoning into a kickass 3.5 hour movie.
]]>Probably Zapp Brannigan’s favorite movie
(Learned how they filmed the zero-g opening scene and man movies are so magic)
]]>Had one of the most stressful experiences of my life taking the escalator down to exit the theater.
This is so much fun. There’s a surprise bit of nostalgia at the end that hits so good. Had some weird similarities to 2018’s Halloween with the paranoid grandma and burning cabin. The 60s aesthetic was awesome in the opening and I was hoping they were gonna roll with it for the whole movie. MRI sequence is a standout.
]]>Why doesn’t Disney make Disney movies anymore?
]]>Undeniably has some laugh out loud moments but I think this style of humor works way better in the short sketch format of ITYSL. Absurdism can get a tad exhausting at the feature length. In the short sequence he can also design a character specifically to deliver on one joke. Toad sequence had me on the floor tho and I clapped at Conner O’Malley like he was a marvel cameo.
]]>Alright, which one of you fuckers taught Chris McQuarrie about Dutch angles?
There’s a really great 2 hour movie in here. Set pieces are a lot of fun but overstay their welcome with the bloated runtime and the need to make a 2 parter. It’s also a weird 2 parter. I was expecting our heroes to suffer a defeat at the end with a small beam of hope for a victory in part 2 a la Empire or Infinity War. But here they sort of come out on top but just have to finish the second half of the mission. All that said, Tom Cruise jumps a motorcycle off a cliff and parachutes onto a moving train so it’s still a great time.
]]>Started reading Absolute Wonder Woman and realized I know basically nothing about Wonder Woman so decided to give this a watch. It’s decent capeshit even if it is cliche after cliche. Don’t really want to watch the second one because I heard it sucks, does Steve Trevor return as the winter soldier?
]]>❌ It’s so over
✅ WE’RE SO BACK
Actually has heart and feels like a film with themes and messages without pointless nostalgia and glup shittos. Characters are actually developed in a way that Marvel has been sorely missing for a while (GoTG aside). Written like a good comic book in that watching all the stuff that came before it will give you a little bonus, but works just as well as a self contained film.
]]>Imagine if Wolf Blitzer became the Stan Lee of this franchise with little cameos in every movie.
]]>Might need to take a break from watching films about how much the world sucks. I appreciate that this doesn’t settle for poverty porn and is a downright angry piece with Ken Loach giving a damning look at the inefficiency of our social safety nets. These systems are so worried about making sure no one gets too much help and completely disregard that maybe some people aren’t getting enough. Beautifully acted with a clear message.
]]>Something about Vittorio De Sica brings out some of the most outstanding performances I’ve ever seen from unconventional actors. In Bicycle Thieves it was a young child and here the Oscar goes to the dog. All around gut wrenching and begs the question, what if people just cared about others slightly. Had to remind myself that it’s just a movie during the scene at the animal shelter. Have a feeling this was a big influence for Kelly Reichardt while making Wendy and Lucy.
]]>Old Joy for demented psychopaths with a sense of humor. Apparently this is a sequel?!
]]>Boy I sure do wish we lived in a world where Mikey was just an entertaining character from a movie and not the fucking president of the United States.
]]>Movies like this are why I love going in blind without seeing trailers. People will undoubtably compare this to From Disk Till Dawn with its two very distinct halves but I think that’s selling this film short. This was an incredible genre bending experience that begs to be seen on the big screen. Took a minute for me to come back to the real world after leaving the theater. Ryan Coogler has the fucking sauce. The writing, the acting, the cinematography all top notch. Intoxicating. Really happy I saw this in imax even if it wasn’t true imax. There’s one scene that shifts aspect ratio mid shot that I don’t think would have the same effect on a normal screen.
]]>Will the film bros crucify me if I add this to my top 4?
]]>What if the Fabelmans was a horror movie.
Gross sweaty and off putting, but this is the vibe it’s going for so successful. Also my local comic book store is one of the most positive healthy spaces I’ve ever encountered, don’t believe everything you see in the movies kids.
]]>These just keep getting better and better. Incredible set pieces. Tom Cruise is a man.
]]>Great film, like 9 out of 10.
There’s so much beauty in the little things. Reminded me a bit of Pixar’s Soul in its message. People get so caught up in trying to find meaning and purpose when in reality none of it matters. Just enjoy while you’re here.
Also Hirayama should definitely have a cat. Seems like such a cat guy.
]]>Imagine what these two divas would get into at a White Lotus
Stunning camerawork. Under Pressure scene is just as great as everyone says it is.
]]>Prison break scene was so cool. Simon Pegg provides some great comic relief.
]]>Rest in peace Sam Peckinpah. You would have loved Red Dead Redemption.
]]>Read this screenplay as part of the screenwriting class I’m taking. A mess on paper but slightly less of a mess on screen. Not a terribly interesting story and some of the dialogue is cheesy. Thankfully the film ditched the flashbacks within flashbacks and cut a lot of unneeded narration. Still don’t buy the relationship between the two kids. This movie should not have ended the directors career. It’s fine. Not good but definitely not terrible. Decently shot and fine performances. There’s a vision here.
]]>Pacing doesn’t let up for a second. I don’t even care that it looks like a Transformers movie.
]]>This is pretty lame. Script is atrocious at times. BUT Iman Vellani rules as Ms. Marvel. Probably because she’s an avid comic fan, but she brings the character to life so well. She just needs a better team. Young Avengers could do that but hear me out here, Ms. Marvel & Wolverine.
]]>The duality of man is Bill Burr saying arm the left but also saying a slur 30 seconds later
]]>I love when a film reminds me that Quentin Tarantino is a dirty rotten plagiarist.
]]>Fun cheesy Arnold silliness. Funny how at times it looks terrible (but still charming in an exploitation B movie kind of way) and at times looks amazing.
]]>Don’t know how anyone can watch this and not have their blood boil watching people being treated this way. Masterfully done doc. The situation in Israel isn’t complicated. It’s pretty simple, the guys who bulldoze Kindergartens are the bad guys. Fuck the IDF.
This doesn’t have US distribution which is lame and to be expected but the UK is streaming it for free via Channel4.com. If you use a vpn in the US you can watch it.
Recognize that this is objectively well made but it’s just not my kind of movie. Overly talkie films struggle to capture the attention of my adhd brain. Maybe it’s because I’ve been watching mission impossible which shares the spy genre but is polar opposite in just about everything else. Interrogation scene was cool and the beginning dinner scene was fun.
]]>Rest in peace Ambrose. You would have loved Wall Street Bets.
]]>Love this in the same way I love Twisters
]]>A movie that becomes disinterested with its premise halfway through and moves on to something else for some reason. Leaves things feeling really disted imo. So many fun possibilities with two Robbie Pattinsons running around and feels like wasted potential. The second half focuses on the evils of colonialism and while a good message, it feels a bit generic and predictable. Great acting though. Mark Ruffallo may be one of our best comedic actors. Mans had me in stitches.
]]>Most stable New York living situation
]]>This rules so hard. I love a movie with a delightfully stupid concept.
]]>Wait, Schafrillas doesn’t voice the crab??
]]>One of the longest movies I’ve ever seen. Half of this feels like deleted scenes.
]]>Wanted to catch this one in theaters but waited until streaming so I could watch it seated next to my black cat. We both loved it, though one of us fell asleep 15 minutes in.
Beautiful work of art. Reminded me a lot of the Team ICO games. Pure wholesome emotion and a visual delight.
]]>Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin is so good it got me to watch this mid Marvel
]]>Best Fantastic Four movie. Also maybe best Pixar movie.
]]>Why is this a better Uncharted movie than the actual Uncharted movie???
]]>America needs Captain von Trapp rn
]]>What a fun time. Reminded me of Bodies, Bodies, Bodies but with a fun sci-fi twist.
]]>Close enough, welcome back Friday and Dude Where’s My Car!
]]>One of the greatest child actor performances I’ve ever seen.
]]>Stellar performances and stunning cinematography for what amounts to be just a fine Wikipedia biopic. Idk maybe biopics that aren’t Oppenheimer just bore me.
Random thought I had while watching but the 80s portion of the film is the kind of cinematography Maxxxine should have had. It looked like watching a video tape without being too overbearing.
]]>Tom Cruise better give June Squibb a cameo in the new Mission Impossible
]]>Jonah Hill getting stabbed and Jonah Hill getting blood on his pants seem like equivalent canon events in different universes

]]>Films for the pod
]]>movies without a strong central plot or a typical three act structure, where instead it's mostly just characters wandering around, talking, making connections, and living life 💓
i see the phrase "nothing happens" as a critique frequently, but i wanted to show that's not necessarily that's a bad thing! you don't need a bunch of plot twists to tell a story and make an emotional connection with the audience.
