Final Destination Bloodlines

2025

★★★★ Watched

Not a sleight at all that this is the weakest Final Destination, really squeezes the pulp on its ideas, everything with the piercings is so funny, strong culmination scene-to-scene, legit great casting finds too, but it ends limp and doesn't really know colour (the prologue looks A Bug's Life)

Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning

2025

★★★ Watched

Mystified by the staccato edit on the opening hour, homages come too sporadic & piecemeal, nor is the plane fight especially fun, but everything legibly horrible is deeply compelling. That shot he dives off the warship - what the fuck?? Horizon of suffocation. Sharp & bleak. The image of the steam showering off Cruise as he's inducted into the submarine cult, unreal, very funny when equally unhinged Trammell Tillman plays "yes and?" Terrifying scale. I assume there's a point in him being reborn, floated back to solid ground in the foetal position, not sure the final act re what it is? Rewatches may solder some sense.

Everything up to the wig is great - visually inventive, narratively tacit, briskly paced -
immediately succumbs to the obvious boredom it pointedly avoids earlier on. Incredible hair. BFI Southbank.

Incredible, so engrossing, so detailed. Ideal form, wish I'd written my thoughts on the day. Didn't recognise Carradine, he looks like Kayce from Yellowstone lol.
