]]>Felt like it was 6 hours and not my favorite set pieces of the franchise but the Cruise charm goes a long way for me these days and there’s a lot to enjoy. I know MacGuffins are like the whole thing with this franchise but this one in particular left me wanting a bit more.
Great cast, the team aspect of this franchise is always my favorite part. Something about getting your squad together is just as cool as it is cozy.
At the end of the day I’ll see every Tom Cruise movie in theaters until I die regardless, he will outlive all of us.

]]>Worth the hype, Tim Robinson delivers the words “oh fuck!” like none other. I thought the first half was a bit stronger than the back half, but still had a great time despite one guy in my theatre who laughed like a dying bird for the entire thing. Will be seeing again forsure .

Really good looking men in this movie. Love the commitment to completely duping the audience into thinking any of this would work.
It’s just about cool bros taking down a bad bro.

]]>Fantastic! Really pleasantly surprised by this, it was an absolute blast. Incredible opening sequence and all the kills were a blast. I didn’t expect to care so much about the main cast, but I found them incredibly likeable and I truly cared about them all.
A great time at the movies!

]]>Very goofy but the practical effects are absolutely incredible. Some shots genuinely got under my skin. If this was the movie anyone watched with their mom this Mother’s Day, let me know and we’ll start a group chat.

]]>Did not see this in the cinema, instead watched an unrendered version which may have actually made it better.
There are 2 sequences in this movie that were totally Army Of Darkness in a cool way and I genuinely really enjoyed that. I wanna make it clear, I was doing my best to not be a hater, so for those two scenes, I give those specifically a thumbs up, if the rest of the movie had the creativity and fun of those scenes it would have been something.
Otherwise this was atrocious as something meant to be a movie. In a way its lack of care about standards like, any likeable characters, plot, good writing, makes it kinda intriguing from a punk rock standpoint. However the last 20 or so minutes really let it sink in that this is where we are now, THIS is the movie that gets young people out to the movie theater. And while I want that at large, it’s a bummer that this is what does it.
Jason Mamoa is like a fever dream, not in a bad or good way, he was just so oddly depicted, and I couldn’t help but wonder what the hell the intention was. Also the plotline with the brother and sister seemed to be cut down to the very bone. Neither of them had any weight as characters, the brother character was obnoxious and the sister disappears for like the middle hour of the movie. Also idk how Danielle Brooks’s character still gets made these days , in my opinion it’s in very poor taste.
Also Jack Black is dead to me. After he separated from his best friend of decades because of a political comment, and done the exact same thing in every movie with his cringe as hell inflections on every fucking line, it’s wildly clear that he sold his soul long ago.
Nate and I are probably the only people to watch this before going to a screening of Mulholland Drive.

]]>Fred Madison: How I ed them. Not necessarily the way they happened.
Post ‘Annihilation’ Alex Garland’s filmography has been… something.
Civil War was a whole bunch of bark with no bite for me and while this is a much different ballgame, I arrived at the same question:
Who is this for?

]]>An absolute treat to get to see this on the big screen.
I’m so late to the party here I feel silly saying anything at all but I wanna chronicle my thoughts, that are to be ever lingering as I think on this masterwork.
I couldn’t help but associate every decision and act with Kyle’s face the first moment he saw his father in the hospital. This immediately struck a chord and all of his choices going forward make a lot of sense as the response from a child who’s just seen their father in the most venerable position for the first time. It inspires a desperate search for something else. Once other elements of mommy and daddy issues reared their head more literally, it became more clear how important that first scene is. And the line later on “ just some fatherly advice “ right after the first cut back to his father, was devastating.
Dennis Hopper . Dennis Hopper. Dennis Hopper.
He’s got so much gravitas as a performer, seeing him not only fully commit to the bit, but also understand the assignment perfectly was dazzling to watch. Despite his character on paper being the most despicable person you can imagine, I was completely out of breath whenever he was on screen.
And everyone was a knockout performance wise. Knowing the long relationship Lynch went on to have with “Kale” and “Tidbit” adds a very sincere and loving layer to this already incredibly emotional film.
Lastly, as a born and bred Milwaukee fella, Dennis Hopper’s PBR line was absolute gold.
]]>In the wake of Val Kilmer ing away I’ve been lucky to be flooded with clips and ages reflecting and celebrating him all over online. I hadn’t heard of this before then and I can’t believe this never came across my desk because this is so my kind of comedy. The JPM (jokes per minute) here are rivaled only by the greatest comedies of all time. I genuinely couldn’t keep up with every bit and I can’t wait to watch it again. All the songs slapped in a Spinal Tap way where they are laugh out loud funny but also something incredibly listenable. The “Anal Intruder” bit made me a giggly mess for the next 10 minutes. Love to Val Kilmer, an absolute magnet in every way, not only is he one of the most handsome men to ever grace our screens, but he absolutely nails every single bit they threw at him in his first lead roll.
Long story short, they don’t make em like this anymore.

]]>The opening scene and a few of the kills were genuinely horrifying, unfortunately the rest of this gets pretty repetitive and manages to feel long despite its short runtime. Still not a bad time though, and those scenes that did hit, really hit hard.
