Dune: Part Two

I stand by my existing reviews of Dune Part 1 & 2, these films are meant for cinema, and here I am watching it on an iPad in my hotel room. Fucking shambles.

This is my first watch of Dune Part Two not in imax, since the release in March 24, I wanted it to be special as it is, and it really was.

The timing of this release was criminal, it’s been shunned by almost all awarding bodies, with recency bias paving the way for other films, don’t get me wrong, they are good, but this is just better, and in a sci-fi domain, that’s the cherry on top.

The score and cinematography, alongside Denis direction, is a killer trio, I would love for them to work on other projects in the future. Throw Chalamet in there for good measure as well, he’s on a great run at the moment.

Dune Part 2 hits all the right moments, it starts incredibly well for the first hour, it does dwell down a bit for the second act, after the tremendous Shai Halud riding scene, but maintains complete composure and excellence in the last hour. This ties up the first and second film in a neat bow, priming us for the final instalment of the trilogy, Dune Messiah.
