Source Code

2011

★★★½ Liked

Groundhog Day as a one-location bomb mystery thriller starring Jake Gyllenhaal.

Source Code is very much my shit.

Frenetic, intelligent, well-construed, well acted, well edited, and unexpectedly poignant, this is another for the case in favour of Jake Gyllenhaal as the most diverse and committed actor working today. Source Code is less about stopping the bomb, and more about living the life we have whilst we have it as in just the blink of an eye it could be gone. The more times the train resets the further we are taken on our journey into the extraordinary life of Colter Stevens, and the more we get to know Colter, dare I say the more we get to know ourselves in of the innate heroism within us and the cliched but undeniable power a single person can give us to defy the odds and fight fate.

I was expecting something average, but what I saw was actually pretty damn great. Recommended.
