Harrison Jones’s review published on Letterboxd:
"Take my life Usul, it is the only way."
An improvement on its predecessor, 'Dune: Part Two' manages to make Paul Atreides a much more compelling protagonist as we follow his struggle under the weight of the prophecy, exploring themes of faith, leadership and predeterminism in fascinating ways.
The cast are uniformly excellent with the stand-out being Austin Butler who plays a deliciously threatening villain - something the first film sorely lacked. The action scenes are all well-shot and exciting and I love how this world feels more real and lived in than that of most sci-fi properties.
However, I failed to buy into the romantic chemistry between Timothee Chalamet and Zendaya and the runtime didn't exactly fly by. I'm still not totally invested in the politics of 'Dune' but that could change on a re-watch.
Overall, while I don't think it's the second coming of 'Empire Strikes Back' like many have called it, it's hard not to be swept up in the fantastic world-building that Denis Villeneuve has created in 'Part Two'.
"I'm pointing the way!"
