I watched this movie when it came out and thought it was a great movie. Now, after having watched the entirety of Andor, I think it’s that much better. Movies like this are some of what makes Star Wars so great. We have the small rebel group sacrificing so much to try to beat the big, bad empire.

Starting off with a bit of exposition, we dive right into the conflict as a Prince’s new wife is kidnapped by an evil creature know only as the Beast. What follows is an epic quest as our Prince recruits a ragtag band to rescue his wife. Perhaps my favorite part is the legendary weapon he acquires and uses in the final confrontation.

Maybe it’s the nostalgia from countless hours playing Minecraft but I genuinely enjoyed this movie. There were plenty of cringe moments however it had a hint of charm too combined with lots of absurdity. I was hoping for a bit more energy in the theater from the audience. Good or bad, Robert Eggers knows how to make a visually beautiful film. Normally not a fan of black and white movies but the b&w scenes in this were perfect. The period and its costumes and mannerisms were a lot of fun and fit really well. The vampire design was also super fun and I loved him creeping around with his fingers out.
