Just left the theater after seeing it in imax … the ancestral music / dance sequence made me transcend and gasp. The score adds so much thanks to Ludwig . Excellent pacing , didn’t want the movie to end . Will definitely be a cult classic
Also Not everyone might have caught this : but I loved the symbolism of the vultures being at the roof of the house when the ingenious riders left the house with the woman holding the gun , in some traditions vultures represent spiritual entities, or a warning , Was a nice touch and foreshadowing.
]]>New personality unlocked .
I have a soft spot for aesthetic/vibes over dialogue movies
The grey color palette really adds personality to this film . cinematography also keeps the suspense with insane camera movements and zooms , it accomplishes a lot without relying too much on dialogue. I like how they used the bird in a cage to represent Jeff in his rendezvous in Paris , which I think was brilliant.
The ending kinda had me puzzled for a bit , other than that it was good , but felt empty in a sense .
Btw The piano player might be the most beautiful woman I’ve seen in a movie
You can tell a lot of Modern “hitman for hire “ movies these days bite of this movie .
]]>Perks of being an introvert, Would have just made a stupid excuse not to go when she invited me over . Paul should have just hopped on hinge like any sex deprived NYU student .
Being in that punk rave scene would lowkey heal me
First of all I’m obsessed with count orloks fur coat in this.
skarsgard look very unrecognizable , haunting, intimidating, and wearing the coolest fur coat you've ever seen. His voice is also nerve shattering. I love how the foundation and equity of the story is built on obsession and unconditional love within evil .
The term destiny also comes to play in the third act , it was meant to be , just like dafoe’s character concluded.
The cinematography and the use of light is also brilliantly used with purpose.
Nosferatu just like me , he a real yearner 😪
]]>The train chase sequence was crazy and felt like a horror movie third act with the music. I also like the scene with the wolves/cayote , which I think they represents mark and Vincent’s journey throughout the night as “lone wolves”. They both also seem to crave human connection but they are stuck with their never ending job cycles. The city of La felt like a character itself. Also is this were John wick got the rave scene shoot out inspiration from?
]]>Even in danger Jeffery doesn't hide his love for Heineken. Also Hitchcock’s influence is heavy in this .
The theme of this film seems to be recognizing the darkness within yourself and leaving behind your naive sensibilities. Frank even says “ Now it’s dark “ twice when he turns the lights off after doing something evil and before he does something evil . It’s also like he represents some sadistic bug in this loving bright dreamy town and everyone else are the robin birds .
That’s also how I interpreted the robin bird eating the bug at the end .
This is my second time watching this movie . And I only just noticed Bradley’s cooper cameo. I literally did the Leonardo di caprio pointing meme when I saw him and Hugh grant is so silly and cool in this
]]>The sequence when they leave their town to go to the zone was so anxiety inducing . The director brings an anxious manner to this scene without adding music or any dramatic involvement. It’s makes it feel real and puts you in their shoes in a way that you start to root for these three guys to get into the zone . The use of black and white to describe their world in that town was brilliant and when in the zone it turns to color which I think symbolizes hope , their desires and ambitions. The film dances around the idea of craving happiness and man’s deepest desires whether it’s be good or bad which also brings the sense of moralism. The continuous shots of the syringes throughout the film hints at the stalkers addiction to the zone . It’s seductive nature to brings hope and faith to mankind. This is my second Tarkovsky film as I didn’t like Solaris that much . I liked this one . Gave me time to reflect.
]]>My first Edward Yang film .
This movie brings such a nostalgic feeling that I can’t describe. It’s makes you feel like you’ve been in that setting of Taiwan before and want to retrieve the memories of the past of you being there . Edward Yang does a Great job of describing the emotions of both chin and Lung , about how they are both trying to find themselves and figure out their future as young adult , both seem confused and unsure about what they want to do in life . Both of them are not perfect , all have their flaws even the father of chin and all other side characters . Like many or any human. They are both unfaithful to each other, but in a sense also love each other . Which I think in a way they are yearning for something mysterious. Most of the film is filled with that empty feeling of yearning or belonging. Whether it be for a relationship or society itself.
]]>Rewatched again after how many years . Got to understand so many clues and twists that I missed the first time . Definitely better on a rewatch.
definition of being “madly in love “ literally. Falling in love with a mentally ill woman . Scottie is definitely weird for that , But I get it . She’s hot . He’s not the first . I like how Scottie forcing Judy ( fake Madeline) to dress like her . Felt like she was being tortured. Almost felt like a punishment or karma like for what Scottie went through by falling in love with her and being in a psychiatric hospital. The ghost like transformation when she wears the pin was cool . I also noticed Hitchcock does this thing in his films , when you think the movie is about to end but then he draws you right back in . Midge deserves better too . I always wonder what’s her relationship with Scottie in this film . Wish San Francisco still looked this cool, it looked so colorful. Also why was the nun just standing in the dark ?? 😭 , was scratching my head at that ending . Felt dizzy after seeing this .
]]>Slow start but it pays of at the suspense of the third act. Like many Hitchcock films . Started yelling at my tv when Lisa got caught in the apartment . Also why tf did he keep walking slowly towards Jeff and falling for the same light trick over and over like a video game final boss . Also noticed Jeff and Lisa were in a situationship
]]>A bitter sweet fate for Arthur . At the end he finally found what he has been searching for . But at what cost . Bitter - Only led to Arthur being trapped in the tombs, just like the items themselves when he goes to search for them in these grave stones. Sweet- because he finally s his lost love partner , he has been searching for , in the after-life . He is also obsessed with digging up the past . Literally and figuratively. He digs up the past searching for the lost love of Beniamina. He digs up the past searching for long lost items in tombs . He longs for the past . There is so much I can analyze and talk about in this movie . I can keep going on and on lmao . Fantastic film . will definitely buy the dvd when it’s available . Will think about this movie for a while . The use of film format and the aesthetic they chose was really gorgeous. I yearn for nostalgic visuals like these . Also “ long live Italia ! “
]]>The upbeat score !!!. So much chaos and kissing! , which I loved lol . I loved the storm scene , I think the storm scene is so brilliant because there whole 3 way relationship is really chaotic as a storm . They are all assholes . No one is good lmao . I couldn’t really root for no one, which I liked . But patrick ! ( Josh o Connor’s) character takes the term asshole to a whole new level . Especially the final scene when he put the ball in that position for the serve . ( the gasp that I did lmao . Luca guadagnino You rock my world .. Please go see this movie
]]>Who’s cutting onions . My eyes . The scene when the tour people sang happy birthday for him and it cuts to him crying his heart out was so heartbreaking. You can tell he is a broken man who has had a rough childhood and trauma in which he mask’s / hides around Sophie . Also the scene where he says he doesn’t see himself being 40 yr old , and he doesn’t know how he made it to 30 was so deep and sad . There is also a hint when Sophie was laying in bed and she says after having an amazing day she feels sad and down, you can tell by Callum's reaction he is familiar to that feeling due to his depression . Which is also why he is very overprotective and sincere with her . I think he does so because he does not want Sophie to go through what he also went through .
This is the type of cool dad I aspire to be .
MAY THY KNIFE CHIP AND FUCKING SHATTER !! . Saw this in imax today for the first time . What an experience!. The speech at the circle gathering was peak acting and he starts telling them their visions and nightmares . Spoiler -( I feel bad for chani, Paul betrayed her . Why didn’t he choose her for a ruling partner? . Austin butler was truly chaotic and manic in this. The plot twist about his blood line was also crazy . “ Lisan al-Gaib” !! is literally embedded in my brain now . I need more Dune !
]]>Soo good . The texting scene absolutely broke me , I’m rooting for their relationship. Another round dance scene vs salt burn dance scene : Hydrogen bomb vs coughing baby .
]]>This is it . This is peak performance.. Fuuuck ! . This film made me feel , made me think and resonate with each character . It touches the topic of morality and the willing to grow and progress and to also give others a chance to become their better selves in the most ludicrous, hilariously Insane and absurd ways . It also points out the idea of free will and to have one’s control on one’s self life and idealism . There is no way yorgos Lanthimos is a sane director Lmaoo
]]>First horror of the year…
Felt like one of those old European indie horror films but with American cast.( in a good way )
How I’m I just seeing this Gem ..
]]>Can definitely see this being a future household classic for people .
]]>The battle of twinks . Loved it tho . Barry Keoghan is so iconic in this and deserves an Oscar nomination
]]>The film score was a jumpscare
]]>Currently side eying my dog ..
]]>Felt like an unhinged watpad story coming to live 💀. Also why was everyone so hot in the 80s
]]>Matt Buckner for the most sappy, Annoying and oblivious character on a sport film . The guy has no sense of reasoning whatsoever . But the movie was ehh

]]>“ The bugger got bugged “ . Paranoia and loneliness 🤝. Also great score. The jazz music is still ringing in my ears. Didn’t even notice it was Harrison ford till the end credit roll .

]]>Idek… it was alright I guess. the pacing could have been better . Too many unnecessary shots and zooms for the sake of aesthetic. But I kinda liked it tho . Might have to rewatch
]]>Watched on Friday September 8, 2023.
]]>I only liked it because I have a very core memory of me waking at like 3 am seeing this on my cable TV and enjoying it . Also I might have to rewatch it and I pray I don’t hate it …

]]>Yoo wtf . Just finished watching this masterpiece minutes ago. Had me on suspense through the whole film . The twist at the end was also crazy.
]]>A tragic story of betrayal and regret . Feels like I just witnessed seeing a film for the first time again after waking up from a coma for how many years . The pacing and cinematography are also brilliant . there are some moments it’s makes the audience or viewer realize it’s a play or Shakespeare inspired due to the use of cinematography or frame placement and composition , which I think it’s brilliant and it’s also draws you back to film like viewing which might be intentional . The use of the color red was also great . It’s was kind of a foreshadowing moments . I think ..or hope I’m not wrong . The kingdom with the red banner . Which I believe red represents blood, violent , power and so on .. which Taro and Jiro suffered through out the film .
]]>My epitome of a comfort movie .this is a flick you can watch anywhere and enjoy . Also the ashes scene is so hilarious
]]>A nice watch . Might be Matt Damon’s best performance acting wise also
]]>A great film to watch at 3:am , alone in the house while going through insomnia or sleep deprivation.
]]>A spectacle to one’s eyes . Kubrick signature zooms really adds spice to it
