was so excited to see christopher eccleston until he dropped that “i promised them women” line holy shit…men will always be men (derogatory) i suppose. this had me so gagged though i absolutely loved the shift this took. so excited for 28 years later now!!

you already know i had to rewatch after the andor finale…did i tear up at the ending with that fresh in my mind? maybe! though i’ve loved this movie from the start i always struggle to rate this bc for the first half i think “why do i liking this more than i actually do” and then that last act hits and i’m like ohhh. that’s why! this exists in some limbo where 4 stars feels too low but 4.5 feels too high. who knows! either way, the entire scarif sequence makes it all worth it because goddamn man. even though this is moreso jyn’s story than cassian’s, everything from the show adds so much weight to moments that seemed innocuous before and elevates the story imo. like oh my god k-2so 😭😭😭 star wars will never be this good again will it 💔

SO FUN!! it goes without saying that robert pattinson is INCREDIBLE in this; the character work he does to make 17 and 18 so distinct is so fucking good!! but i also want to shoutout naomi ackie bc she was incredible as nasha as well, absolutely loved her performance. 

i thought the question of which mickey was the “real” one and who “deserved” to live more was so interesting, the ethical / philosophical dilemma of multiples unexpectedly stuck with me idk (tbh my brain may just be tooo severancepilled bc it reminded me so much of the show lol). but aside from that, the overall themes and commentary are about as subtle as a sledgehammer to the face; but, it works in the film’s favor imo, giving you no way to ignore its political critiques. mark ruffalo’s character in particular felt all too familiar in american politics…equal parts funny and haunting (bc the way his character isn’t even an exaggeration, this fucking country bro😭). pacing felt a little off at times but still a great watch overall + LOVED the unexpected elliott smith needledrop <3

suffers from being a smidge too long but still very fun!!

desperately missing sally hawkins and paul king but it is physically impossible for me to not have a good time watching a paddington film so whatever!! 

(yes this was insanely predictable. yes i still shed some tears. i fear children’s movies just seem to have that effect on me 😪)

i cannot stand this movie. i gave it a chance i saw it through but even after doing so i just cannot for the life of me understand how or why this is continuously sweeping the awards and how anyone loves this. the sheer lack of care for the story’s subject matter is so apparent; between the director saying spanish is the language of the poor, the casting director saying they didn’t hire mexican actors because they couldn’t find anyone talented enough, and Everything going on with karla sofía gascón this movie feels so insanely disrespectful towards mexico and as someone who is mexican i cannot possibly understand how people can take this seriously!! 

this utterly lacks cohesion; i felt like every time Maybe things were starting to make sense something new came out of left field to throw the movie off the rails. feels like they just kept throwing stuff at the wall to see what would stick - and none of it does. that ending especially is so egregious like genuinely what was the thought process. the plot is so all over the place i found it impossible to truly invest myself in anything going on + difficult to take seriously. and the music…i don’t know why this needed to be a musical to begin with tbh but half the songs sound like they were composed by someone who’s never heard a musical in their life (the pacing?? the emphasis being on all the wrong phrases?). if you told me they were just singing (poorly) written dialogue i would 100% believe you because so many songs just felt clunky. captions were needed every time selena gomez spoke spanish because that accent was…something! very obvious cis people wrote this, staggering levels of ignorance on display throughout the script. a mess all around i’m afraid

it has been tooo long since i saw this, so what better time to revisit than while sitting in an empty room as you prepare to move…gus van sant calling this a movie about looking for a home was rattling around my head the entire time

undoubtedly one of the most important films of the year. the ending montage was harrowing on its own but the credit’s score immediately brought the tears. i honestly don’t even have words? haunting, nauseating, but also beautiful. the use of first person pov had me in genuine awe but also made everything feel so much more horrific by putting you in the shoes of elwood and turner - you Feel the fear and danger along with them, such a brilliant way to engross you in their story. wishing i had been able to see this in theaters, this movie deserved better distribution

dude…i’ve literally been trying to write this review all day but keep falling short. i it part 2 lost me for a bit but they IMMEDIATELY brought me back with that final scene of erzsébet holy shit…felt like the air had been sucked out of the room. pt 2’s ending genuinely affected me so much i lowkey did not grasp as much of the epilogue as i should’ve because i was in pure shock. you truly feel the length of the movie, but i don’t mean that as criticism; on the contrary, i think it elevates the Experience this is. by the end of it all you feel as emotionally taxed as lászló, forced to reckon with everything that’s brought us to this point. walked out of that theater feeling so so empty. a nauseatingly horrific portrayal of the american dream (or lack thereof) with absolutely gorgeous visuals. insane that this only cost $10m to make?? i’m going to be thinking about this for a long long time.

(shame about the ai business though..)

possibly the most perfect movie i could’ve chosen to combat the new years blues and anxieties…so beautiful and poignant. found myself having to stop and rewind so many times just to hear certain bits of dialogue bc it genuinely felt so poetic. and the use of color vs. black and white!! such a comforting movie overall though i fear the scene of cassiel failing to save that man is going to haunt me for a bit..

woah. beautifully shot, the colors in this are so unbelievably gorgeous. the ballet sequence midway through had me strangely emotional? it was just so brilliantly staged and directed, and once again the visuals genuinely had me ascending. but that final “performance” bro….took the air out of my lungs oh my god. hauntingly beautiful and a genuinely transcendent film idc
