This is one of the few films that portray existentialism and nihilism in an impactful, genuine, and somewhat relatable way. Travis, the main character in the film is lonely, and without a sense of purpose. Part of the reason for this loneliness is because he feels like he doesn't fit in in society as he has a disdain for many of the people he calls scum. When Betsy, one of his initial romantic interest calls him a "walking contradiction" it…
