Dune: Part Two

2024

★★★★★

It’s almost shocking that a movie shooting for (and likely soon attaining) mass blockbuster appeal doesn’t shy ahead from the headier themes of the novel.  The key word that comes to mind as I think on the movie is “special.” Everything here seems as if it’s the singular vision of Villeneuve, even if there are some elisions of characters and moments that would solidified him as a Certified Sicko (no spoilers till later).  When certain reveals happen, everything feels perfectly in place but also surprising to someone without knowledge of the source material.  To see a massive movie with the few remaining hopes of actual Movie Stars in a film with themes this bleak and murky is genuinely wonderful and puts a nice satisfying rock in your stomach.

The closest parallel in of production and scale of the filmmaking is probably Lord of the Rings, but the exaggeration is minimal.  This movie really is that good.  Messiah is going to be a catalyst of discourse the likes of which Twitter has never seen, but I cannot wait.  I have been awaiting this for years, and it’s everything I wanted.  Avoid spoilers; this one is a unique film to behold.

Bold prediction: this cracks a billion dollars worldwide
