This is a beautiful film about how music transcends through time disguised as a really fucking cool Vampire flick. It’s genius from Coogler. Career best’s handed out like sweets for B. Ok this completely warrants everyone putting this in their letterboxd top 4 😂 It’s got such a fun and unique vibe to it and lead by a brilliantly charismatic Greta Gerwig… I’m fairly sure we watched Noah fall in love with her during filming this. A wonderful and hilarious script. It didn’t need colour to be colourful. Some perfect needle drops as well. Tells so much in its tight runtime. Very surprised with how much I loved this.
Mann is directing the absolute shit out of this. What a director. Yes it has pacing issues but this feels like a real epic sports biopic. Arguably Will Smith’s best ever role and accompanied by a stellar cast. The cinematography is stunning and the soundtrack is powerful. The boxing scenes all felt so genuine as well. Had low expectations but was genuinely impressed by the scale of this.
