JJ’s review published on Letterboxd:
Duncan Jones is one of the best up coming directors working in the movie industry, and given some time will really pull out an extraordinary film. Source Code (his second film) is a prime example of his talent. It's about a man (Jake Gyllenhaal) who has 8 minutes to find a bomb and the bomber on a train, before being 'resurrected' to search again for more answers and stop the bomber from potentially detonating another bomb.
It's smart and slick and has you on the edge of your seats for some moments. However, when the film breaks and you journey back to where Jake Gyllenhaal is actually, the film loses momentum and as it continually happens throughout the film looses its rhythm and towards the end I found the film lumbering in sections.
The 'love story' that is woven into the film derails the film slightly and you just wish the film can smoothed that part over, before making it a primary feature of the film, following the revelation of who the bomber is. That being said, the film ends a high (and many paradoxes) and still is a memorable watch and original, clever story written by Ben Ripley.
