My husband asked to rewatch this the other day and I think it is the most attractive he's been to me in years

I couldn't keep my cool at the ending and it caused a chain reaction of both my children bawling and my daughter asking over and over again "Where dragon? where dragon?"

Don't be sorry, she believed in heaven so she's covered, afterlife-wise..

Is there something they put in disney movies that makes them seem better when your toddler hyperfixates on them for weeks at a time???

Giving me the will to live through each day

The first time I watched these movies my husband and I were newlyweds so now they are strangely romantic for us both

The first time I watched this with my daughter I said "this is the best part" before Let it Go and now every single time we watch this together she looks at me as the music starts and says "best part! best part!"

Yeah I'm almost 30 and I have 2 kids now but I still get full body chills during Let it Go.

Theatre full of white boomers, pretty fun time

My daughter got scared alot, and kept saying "oh no"

What if the devil took advantage of your biggest weakness?

I woke up from a nightmare early this morning. It's a bit foggy now, but I my daughter (18 months) holding her finger to her lips saying "shhhhh" with a devious smile-while holding her newborn little sister (I'm seven months pregnant).

I couldn't fall back asleep and had to repeatedly say the Hail Mary to stop my imagination from running wild. There were some truly frightening aspects of this film; I really loved the opening scene and the crescendo of music. As a classic Catholic I always appreciate the delving into satanism as a source of fear.

But what terrified me the most was wondering the lengths I would go to in order to protect my child. Watching the mother's reaction after each murder shift from horrified to apathetic to enjoyment(?) Was disturbing. What would it take to push us all over the edge into evil? And that at point, can we truly place the blame on a demonic force? Or do we simply accept that the evil is part of us all, a solid sphere untouched in the darkest parts of our minds?

Sometimes the Pink Opaque feels more real than real life.

Even though I tend to be someone who is very negative about my day-to-day life, I always lean towards a more optimistic view towards fiction and the world as a whole. Often I just have a "it'll all work out in the end" outlook, or I try to find the good in each story. This is a film that actively rejects my ability to find some sort of happy ending. The quick cut to black after terror and denial denies any notion of catharsis. Not everyone gets a happy ending.

For some reason I keep thinking back on the scene where Owen revisits The Pink Opaque as an adult. Through his adult eyes it seems cheesy, silly, and embarrassing. Is this truly what the show has always been, or is it a trick from the Melancholy Man, trying to distract Owen from the truth about his reality? And did Maddy truly have some sort of escape? Or did she simply die in a coffin, struggling to breathe, just like Owen's slow death in denial?

"I have a family now, and I love them more than anything." Owen says in the final act. But we never see this family. And the secret television set in his chest implies that his true love lies elsewhere. Has he become his own absent father, wasting away in front of the tv every night?

And so the last few days, ruminating on this film, I wonder if we have all been fooled by the Melancholy Man. Forgotten dreams of childhood, everything seems a little faded and wrong. Even those who "escaped" do not seem happy and are lost. Simply growing up and finding a family does not solve our inability to feel whole. We lose ourselves in screens to feel real.

In one last effort to find the happy ending, we can that we don't have to choose Owen's story. That the Pink Opaque is just a tv show.

And that can be a comfort, as much as it can be a horror.

Convinced that at no matter what age or how many times I watch this it will always feel like a fever dream hellscape that I will forget immediately after watching

Kind of cool to watch while pregnant but otherwise I didn't need the father-son storyline I just want car sex and murder please

My sister and my cousin saw this in the cinema and went out and bought tennis rackets and are committed to playing together once a week for the summer and that's the power of film

None of the jokes really landed for me, but the action was really good and Ryan Gosling as always was perfection. Best part was the credits and how awesome it was that nearly the whole theater full of people stayed to watch them.

Do I like this more than I should because I'm a mom and my ultimate fantasy is someone other than my husband still finding me attractive

About halfway through I realized this was the first Brandon Cronenberg movie I watched without my sister so I was utterly heartbroken about that for the rest of the film. How I felt about the movie? Not a clue.

The only time I'm truly happy is watching movies with my sister

Janine only told me a few Val Kilmer facts during this movie and frankly I'm disappointed

Oh to be teenage Jennifer Connelly; gorgeous, perfect hair, and the ability to command legions of insects.

I think I liked/hated the novel more than I liked/hated this. But it was impressive considering that the novel is an incredibly difficult piece of source material to base a film on. My main complaint is the John C. Reilly casting which seems totally bizarre. Anyway I'll never watch this again or read the novel again which has haunted me now for years.

I am ashamed of being young.

I'm sad.

Why am I just noticing some of the similarities between this movie and While You Were Sleeping except one of these films is a masterpiece and the other has Ryan Reynolds and zero chemistry

Well, you can't never let anything happen to him. Then nothing would ever happen to him.

Yes I'm incredibly hormonal, overtired, and depressed. But I cried through half of this and I'm pretty sure it changed my life.

I talked to my mom and the phone today and I told her that I barely ed the plot of the 3rd John Wick so I had trouble following this one and she sounded so disappointed in me I really let her down with my lack of enthusiasm. Sorry mom.

The day after my daughter was born our discharge nurse looked me straight in the eyes, held me by my shoulders and said,

"Honey, nobody is going to take care of your baby like you can. So you need to take care of yourself."

Now perhaps this is a scripted interaction she has with every exhausted new mother. But it saved my life. In the months that followed, postpartum depression attacked me daily. In my darkest moments I felt my daughter would be better off without me. But I always ed what the nurse said, and logically would then realize nobody else knew how to feed my daughter or put her to sleep or what was her favorite songs or toys or which sleeper was too heavy paired with a certain blanket. Only I knew. And so, being a parent has given me the strongest sense of self preservation I've ever had.

Naively, I thought that being a mother would "complete" me. That I would no longer have dark days (or weeks) because I have a purpose, a dependent, I would be part of something bigger than myself...and although all of those things are true, I still find myself in the same highs and lows that have been a part of my whole life. Only now, I feel incredibly guilty about ever feeling depressed, as though these feelings mean I don't deserve my daughter.

Aftersun was a dreadful experience. I spent most of the film on edge waiting for something horrible to happen, only to realize something was happening the entire film. In fact, everything was happening, all at once.

I think as we get older we all start to see our childhood with new eyes. Maybe we romanticize (or demonize) the past a bit, able to see it all with the grace of age. We understand how tired our parents were from work, or the pressures of adulthood that were a mystery for so long. Unfortunately many times the phrase "you'll understand when you're a grownup" is inevitably true.

I think my main takeaway from this film is that nobody's childhood is perfect. No parent is perfect. But I think everyone would rather have their mom or dad around to fill in the blanks to all the unanswered questions of life.

It's important to note that Sophie decided to have a child, even with what happened to her father, and the suggestion that she too suffers with depression. I think despite the general despair we see, she has decided to opt for hope.

Or maybe I decided to hope, so that is my interpretation.

"When you were 11, what did you think you would be doing with your life?"

I can't tell if I'm connecting with you or creating a bad memory in real time but I can't stop myself

And that’s the trick to life. You have to be wise enough to know when you were living in your dream. And you have to be humble enough to accept when you’re in someone else’s.

I wish it was funnier but I did laugh a couple times. Some truly insightful and poetic moments.
