Ballerina

★★★½ 1

84/100 - A month before release, I would've gladly accepted this movie being anything other than "dead on arrival." Yet, somehow, someway 'Ballerina' has proved itself to be a fine addition to the John Wick Universe. Now, with that said, it's clear what the "somehow, someway" ended up being: Chad Stahelski saving the day. What they did to right the ship with the movie worked, and then some.

85/100 - When I left the theater, an audience member turned back to me and simply said, "that was fucked." Spot on my fellow moviegoer, spot on. The Philippou brothers, who burst onto the scene with 2023's 'Talk To Me', clearly have the horror sauce. I would have preferred a little more leaning into the story over the shock value, but that's a nitpick. It's also worth noting too that Sally Hawkins, and everyone involved, adds another layer to this…

17/100 - How the fuck did Al Pacino end up in this movie? One of the least interesting horror movies I have ever seen, and it is shot in the same style as a network TV mockumentary sitcom. Shocking levels of terrible with this one, folks.

82/100 - Badass movie that knows exactly what it needs to be and doesn't try to do too much. It doesn't reach extraordinary heights, but I am also not sure it was trying to! I'd actually argue they could have let it breathe a little longer story wise. It's no shock a universe & franchise like this translates perfectly to animation.

97/100 - This is the type of movie that makes you feel ALIVE (no pun intended). I almost stood up out of my seat for the last hour. The heart, soul, & ion poured into this movie by Ryan Coogler oozes out until the final credits roll. ‘Sinners’ is a special movie, an original blockbuster, that both looks & sounds amazing. And I can’t stress the “sounds” part of that statement enough, because Ludwig Göransson crafts a masterpiece with the music in this movie. ‘Sinners’ has all the sauce, and then some.

Nosferatu

93/100 - THIS is why you go to the movies. If it was appropriate to clap in 'Nosferatu', I might've done so around 50 times. Few directors, if anything, have "the sauce" quite like Robert Eggers. He takes a legacy story and drenches it in what has become his own recognizable jaw-dropping style. Every shot in this movie could be printed out and hung inside of a museum. Everything from the atmosphere down to the writing is creepy, eerie, fucked…
