]]>101 Horror Movies You Must See Before You Die - Edited by Steven Jay Schneider
A few years ago I bought this book in an effort to catch up on what is considered essential horror cinema, and have since been slowly collecting the films mentioned here (not quite there yet!).
This list is therefore for me to keep track and make sure that I do actually get these films watched - hopefully having a percentage of how much I've seen will spur me forward to get this book completed. Since I'm only logging the films I've seen since Jan 1st 2013 this should also give me a good opportunity to go back and revisit and reevaluate some great horror films.
Feel free to also use this list as reference for your own horror film fun - how many have YOU seen?

]]>Inspired by the John Waters film Cecil B. Demented, a list of the SprocketHoles favorite directors.
In the film, the terrorist cinema filmmaking collective The SprocketHoles, each get a tattoo of their favorite director. I have collected here the five most popular films of each director on Letterboxd that were released by the time the film came out in 2000.
It's an eclectic list of filmmakers that range everywhere from classics, to trash cinema, to heavily experimental arthouse. They cover themes on everything from race, gender, sexuality, violence, art, politics, philosophy, and more. To me, it's a list that not only reflects the influences of the characters, but also John Water's himself, and in a way the very spirit of subversive and challenging filmmaking that The SprocketHoles aspire to. It's also a list of films I am woefully behind on.
The tattoos on the characters are as follows:
Cecil - Otto Preminger - left forearm
Cherish - Andy Warhol - thigh
Lyle - Hershell Gordon Lewis - left breast
Pam - Sam Peckinpah - left arm
Chardonnay - Spike Lee - stomach
Lewis - David Lynch - knuckles
Fidget - William Castle - chest
Raven - Kenneth Anger - chest
Rodney - Almodovar (presumably Pedro) - right arm
Petie - Fassbinder - left forearm
Dyna - Sam Fuller - right forearm

Triple Feature: Red Black And Blue
So many reasons! Explorations of artistic accomplishment vs personal wants/needs. Explorations of men attempting to control women. Explorations of life imitating art. Explorations of subjective reality. Surrealism. Various visual call backs between each. Spinning POV camera from Red Shoes replicated in Black Swan. Doppleganger visuals replicated from Perfect Blue in Black Swan. Black Swan steals a lot but is still SO GOOD. All of them have colors in their names even!

The Thing vs Annihilation
Group of men fight alien entity that attempts to invade their bodies and control them in claustrophobic environment.
Group of women fight alien entity that envelops around them and attempts to merge with them in a very wide open space.
Both films feature a scene where the characters are tied up because of paranoia and dissension and then encounter something horrific.

]]>My friend Kirk made a scavenger hunt!
The original list can be found here.
Rules:
Every movie needs to never seen before by you, unless the description calls for a re-watch (there's only one). Can be done in any order, as long as all 50 are done. You can't have one movie count for multiple entries, you have to watch 50 different films. Feature length only, no shorts. If done correctly, you'll add 49 new movies to your seen list!
The movies I've listed are what I've picked for my 50 (obviously pick ones for yourself). No specific time limit, unless you want to compete with someone or challenge yourself even more. Have fun, film nerds!
(In the extremely unlikely scenario you've seen every film for one of the numbers and the random back-up movie, jump to #49 and watch a movie that applies to that one)
1. Watch a movie you haven't seen yet by a famous director.
2. Watch a Disney or Pixar movie you haven't seen before. If you're completely certain you've seen EVERY single one, watch "The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes" (available on Disney+)
3. Actually watch a movie that's been sitting in one of your queues (Netflix, Hulu, Prime, Disney+, whatever).
4. Watch a movie you already bought but haven't seen yet. If you've seen every single movie you own, watch "The Rum Diary" (available on Netflix.)
5. Watch a non-English language film you haven't seen yet.
6. Watch a movie either based on a video game or about video games.
7. Take a chance to learn something by watching a documentary you haven't seen before.
8. Watch a movie that's one of your best friend's favorites that you haven't seen yet. If you somehow have seen all of them, watch "Buffaloed" (available on Hulu)
9. Watch a movie based on a book you haven't read (and are probably never going to read, let's be honest).
10. Watch a movie based on a comic book/graphic novels or about comic books you haven't seen.
11. Critics be damned! Watch a movie with a higher audience rating than a critic rating on Rotten Tomatoes you haven't seen.
12. Watch something LGBTQ+ you haven't seen yet!
13. Watch a horror film you haven't seen yet.
14. Watch a film from a black director you haven't seen yet.
15. Watch a movie that's a rip-off of another movie.
16. Watch an anime movie you haven't seen.
17. Watch an animated movie that isn't anime you haven't seen.
18. Watch a movie starring Ben Schwartz. If you've somehow seen his entire filmography, watch "Zapped" (available on Prime)
19. Watch a sequel you haven't seen before to a movie you have seen before.
20. Watch a movie directed by a woman you haven't seen.
21. Knock off one more "1,001 Movies" movie off your list.
22. Watch a quick movie (under 90 minutes).
23. Re-watch a movie you didn't really like the first time, but have been meaning to give a second chance.
24. Watch a movie older than 1950 you haven't seen.
25. Watch a movie that's from 2019 or 2020 you haven't seen.
26. Watch a musical you haven't seen.
27. Watch a movie that stars a couple that have dated in real life.
28. Watch a silent film you haven't seen.
29. Watch a western film you haven't seen.
30. Watch "Short Term 12" (Prime). If you've seen it, watch "Killer Condom" (it's on Youtube)
31. Watch a movie that's either a concert film, a musician biopic, or a documentary about music/musicians.
32. Watch a movie from the year you were born you haven't seen yet.
33. Watch an Academy Award winning Best Picture film you haven't seen. If you've seen them all, watch "Slow West" (on Netflix)
34. Watch a movie with aliens you haven't seen.
35. Watch a sports movie (an actual real-life sport, not a made up sci-fi thing).
36. Watch a Spike Lee, Ang Lee, Woody Allen, or Albert Brooks directed movie. If you have seen every single one, watch "Paris, Texas" (available on Hoopla/Criterion)
37. Watch a movie with time travel, ghosts, space, or robots.
38. Watch a movie with Samuel L. Jackson, Anne Bancroft, or Charlie Chaplin.
39. Watch a movie by KEN RUSSELL. If you've seen all of his, watch a movie directed or starring someone named Ken.
40. Watch a Troma movie (several are on Prime and Youtube). If you've somehow subjected yourself to every single one, watch any bad B movie.
41. Watch a movie that has a tie to a TV show (either it or the TV can come first).
42. Watch a Sci-Fi movie you haven't seen.
43. Watch a movie about a writer.
44. Watch a movie with either Tom Cruise, Orson Welles, or Anna Kendrick.
45. Watch an action movie you haven't seen.
46. Watch a movie that has a question mark or exclamation point at the end of its title.
47. Watch a children's/kid/family movie.
48. Watch a comedy you haven't seen.
49. Watch one of the films I mentioned by name above ("The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes", "The Rum Diary", "Buffaloed", "Zapped", "Killer Condom", "Slow West", or "Paris, Texas"). If you've seen all of these, watch any movie you haven't seen that's considered good by most people.
50. Free Space- Watch any movie you've never seen before!
Alright, so that's it! You should start with "2% seen" and end with "100% seen". Good luck!
