I could watch Daisy Ridley read the phone book. That's sorta what this film is, and by most metrics would be considered "boring" I'm sure. But that's really the point. The sheer depression of a boring and isolated life..and how meaningful just small, brief connections can be amidst it. The Office as a mumblecore minimal art film.
This is the film of last year for me. An amazing biopic, impeccable acting, and a jaw-dropping journey that takes us from the '70s basically to where we stand today. Sadly I don't think I could ever stomach a rewatch given recent events. Maybe I'll feel different in 4 years if the world still stands.
It astounds me the amount of work and production that went into this film...one that by all s bombed pretty hard at the box office. The size and scope of the worlds, the number of aliens, the awesome ships and technology...so much detail and personality across the entire thing (often for characters on screen for about, maybe, half a second). The underlying story is less special, but by no means bad. I can see it gathering a bit of a cult following as the years go on.
