Dune: Part Two

2024

★★★★

White people looking for spice is the most fictitious aspect of this film.

There is no one else who plays with contrast in the film space better than Denis — between intercutting opposing color palettes, the juxtaposition of extreme close ups and extreme wide shots, Paul’s ascent to power coupled with his descent to madness, how the visual storytelling is both sweepingly Biblical yet intimately Freudian. Paul’s paradoxical values and motivations feel fully explored, and his arc only gets more satisfying to watch.

My only gripe is that I wish we get to Paul and Feyd-Rautha’s confrontation sooner after establishing their stories. Otherwise this movie was absolutely giving in every facet.
