Really enjoyed this. Sci-fi elements are weaved through the film so that they moderately increase over time, never feeling like they whiplash from a more grounded story, but naturally ratchet up. Feel like we miss out just a little bit on who Doug Carlin *is*, but this is made up for with Denzel’s blinding charisma. An excellent thriller, imo.

Absolutely astonishing as a feat of spectacle. Denzel really put on that dress, those rings, and went crazy. Mescal is also great. Not nearly enough Pedro!!
I cannot WAIT for Ridley’s patented extended cut, because my major issue with the film now is this: the action is fucking epic, but the dramatic scenes are ed through at such a BREAKNECK speed that we end up not really buying all the dramatic beats. Fingers-crossed we get that sometime soon…there is a masterpiece lurking here, it just hasn’t been brought to the surface yet.
