uhhh yeah this wasn’t very good. although near the end they try to combat this (which is then again switched up at the end), it definitely seems like the idea is that the kids should conform to white peoples norms, and to not be themselves because “they’ll never get anywhere as themselves”, idk the ethnicities of the people who worked on it but it totally stunk of white saviour tropes, especially from dennis quaids character. like those diner people totally…
