v v good but emotionally unmoved
]]>this movie is near offensively bad, but carried by cruise
SUCH a product of its times in all of the worst ways possible
]]>how have i only now just watched this
i understand all of the acolades — this film is beautiful, it’s funny, it’s bleak, and my LORD was it poignant given the 2019 release
no notes
]]>jesus christ man tom cruise has the fucking SAUCE
]]>yeah this fucked
felt like it needed the post credits to tie it together thematically, which i’ll sing it for but it was SO good to watch in a theater
]]>this is absolute slop but you know what hell yeah
5 year olds will eat this up and that’s what matters
]]>Watched this today WHILE SICK and off of work and i truly get it — i really do
Also one of the most beautiful films i’ve ever had the joy of seeing
]]>watched this just 5 weeks before i move again and WOOF
]]>did NOT hit like i thought it would upon rewatch
]]>only 3.5 stars, but 5 big booms
this movie simply has the sauce man
]]>real tough watch as someone who saw myself as dave
]]>upon rewatch that singular ralph fiennes monologue has done more for me spiritually than any intentional evangelist efforts
]]>decided to watch this just cause the oscar’s are tonight and oh my GOD what the fuck is this abomination
]]>so heartfelt — and so sad the idea of outliving both one’s love and dreams
]]>monica barbaro i am #observing
]]>i wish i had the whimsical knowledge of benoit blanc
]]>was cute and had unique animation — glad to see this and not an unneeded 4th movie or recycled idea in some random franchise
]]>perfect first 3/4 of a movie and then idk how i feel
]]>i will always be a laurie defender
also watched this w/ my mom, and she told me that it was the first book she distinctly re reading as an “adult girl” in middle/high school and she got emotional and it was a v v sweet experience that i will cherish. sharing what you love w/ who you love is the best thing ever ever in the world
]]>ralphieeee
]]>was halfway thru watching this w/ the fam and someone asked “who’s that actor” and i looked it up cause i had no idea
how the FUCK is that zooey deschanel
]]>my favorite xmas movie idc if it’s nostalgia
]]>this style of animated movie looks better than any live action ever will
]]>unironically the tiktok trend w that one song is a funnier bit than any part of the movie i fear
]]>stayed up watching this til 530 and listened to the visions of gideon scene from the bathroom of a friends apt and it was v camp however my body regrets staying up til 530 at this hour
]]>mid saved by good source material
could have and should have EASILY have been the best movie
]]>Maybe my personal favorite Miyazaki film
There’s so much comfort in the simplicity, in the colors and design, and in the warmth of the characters
]]>the fact cuaron was offered goblet of fire and turned it down will forever haunt me
also, the scene in the shrieking shack will forever be peak cinema
]]>my favorite of the Dahl adaptation shorts
also NEED a Wes Anderson adaptation of the BFG
]]>It’s a shame what casting used to be vs what it is
If this franchise was made now, it’d be some A-B listers who don’t even fit the roles — love how this franchise was cast and let the kids and other key cast (hagrid !!!) shine
]]>“You are but you’re bisexual” may be the line read of the century
Just something so charming about this whole film to me, I could speak endlessly about Wes Anderson’s style and how this is so emblematic of his best, but that has been said before.
My favorite part of this may be the almost metronomic pacing of the film accompanied by the score, it keeps a tension yet comfort within it that brings me so much whimsical enjoyment that I cannot explain.
Truly one of my favorite films ever, it just makes me happy and I’m excited to watch it and talk about whether the 1st time or 10th — and regardless of anything else, pure enjoyment is all that film is about and made for.
]]>it’s leviosa not leviosa
]]>i fear i underrated this one my first go around
]]>bro what if the poison was inside you all along bro
]]>toothless kinda the best wingman ever
]]>i wish stanley tucci was my father
]]>stressful and in enjoyable even tho sure it was good
]]>brie larson please step on me
]]>Saw in IMAX
yeah this is peak
]]>new comfort watch unlocked
Truly though, a fun movie on the surface, but once you peel back the layers it really illustrates how music and/or our dreams can compensate for so much during adolescence
Also the scene at the end WHO IS CUTTING ONIONS
]]>hell yeah
]]>upon every rewatch i am more shocked by the sheer star power of the cast
]]>it was the fifth or sixth most coldest day
]]>All i could think about was stephen a smith reciting maximus’ monologue
Undeniably a great film, a product of its time. Some of it didn’t click, some of it dragged, and that’s okay. Could’ve done w less slow mo action shots but Russell Crowe and Joaquin Phoenix absolutely cooked. Joaquin may be the greatest actor at acting horny OAT i can’t help but respect it
amazing performances and amazing direction clearly but it just wasn’t something i felt able to connect to? even tho i saw the dynamic at play
]]>this is the most innocent, warm, funny, and honest depiction of guys being dudes and kids being kids
]]>this is what movies are meant to be
]]>glad this wasn’t reflective of my dnc experience in chicago
]]>the funniest bit was brick being an advisor to the bush white house @the end
]]>and if i said this was the funniest modern comedy?
]]>
