SUCH a product of its times in all of the worst ways possible

how have i only now just watched this

i understand all of the acolades — this film is beautiful, it’s funny, it’s bleak, and my LORD was it poignant given the 2019 release

felt like it needed the post credits to tie it together thematically, which i’ll sing it for but it was SO good to watch in a theater

also watched this w/ my mom, and she told me that it was the first book she distinctly re reading as an “adult girl” in middle/high school and she got emotional and it was a v v sweet experience that i will cherish. sharing what you love w/ who you love is the best thing ever ever in the world

There’s so much comfort in the simplicity, in the colors and design, and in the warmth of the characters

the fact cuaron was offered goblet of fire and turned it down will forever haunt me

also, the scene in the shrieking shack will forever be peak cinema

Just something so charming about this whole film to me, I could speak endlessly about Wes Anderson’s style and how this is so emblematic of his best, but that has been said before.

My favorite part of this may be the almost metronomic pacing of the film accompanied by the score, it keeps a tension yet comfort within it that brings me so much whimsical enjoyment that I cannot explain.

Truly one of my favorite films ever, it just makes me happy and I’m excited to watch it and talk about whether the 1st time or 10th — and regardless of anything else, pure enjoyment is all that film is about and made for.

Truly though, a fun movie on the surface, but once you peel back the layers it really illustrates how music and/or our dreams can compensate for so much during adolescence

Undeniably a great film, a product of its time. Some of it didn’t click, some of it dragged, and that’s okay. Could’ve done w less slow mo action shots but Russell Crowe and Joaquin Phoenix absolutely cooked. Joaquin may be the greatest actor at acting horny OAT i can’t help but respect it

amazing performances and amazing direction clearly but it just wasn’t something i felt able to connect to? even tho i saw the dynamic at play

this is the most innocent, warm, funny, and honest depiction of guys being dudes and kids being kids
