nothing, except everything.

2023

Pretentious in the classic sense of the word, Nothing, Except Everything thinks that it’s saying something meaningful but the film is so baseline in its thoughts. About as insightful as a mediocre college application essay.

Edit: I have some additional thoughts in regards to the future of Wang as a director. First of all, I think that Darren Aronofsky and Tristar are being very irresponsible producing this film and turning it into a feature length project. Fans of Parks And Recreation will “Ice Town” and how it ruined young Ben Wyatt’s life as he was given too much freedom at a young age, and when his grand plan for a winter sports complex came crashing down he was a laughingstock. I fear this will happen to Wang if he is given such creative control over a feature length project.

If Aronofsky cared about Wesley Wang’s future he would have taken him under his wing as an assistant director on his next project and have give him the life and work experience to be a better artist. The biggest complaint people have about the film is that it’s immature, so giving Wang space to grow up may work wonders.
