I could write an entire essay about my issues with Villeneuve as a réalisateur of big sci-fi worlds — a job to which he is fascinatingly ill-suited, even though it seems to be his lifelong dream — but the fact is we have an unapologetically Muslim-coded, deeply Quebecois space epic with a decent chance of grossing a billion dollars at the exact moment that Hollywood studios are desperately searching for the template of a post-Marvel blockbuster. I consider this a glass 4.5 fifths full situation!!!
