But it's also a film that can be difficult to fully appreciate or understand unless you’ve dealt with depression yourself. It’s hard to grasp why Justine is so deeply sad on what’s supposed to be the happiest day of her life. And in the second half, it’s equally hard to understand why she’s so calm and detached in the face of the world ending, while Claire spirals into panic.
