I’m a sucker for a lovable group of misfits/mercenaries who start off barely tolerating each other but slowly become a found family. Add in some shared struggles with mental health and emotional baggage, and I’m all in.

Also, why was everyone in this movie so ridiculously beautiful? Every single character was serving face, like, not one weak link in the cast.

And the chemistry between them? Absolutely amazing. Zero notes there. You could really feel the connection between the characters,…

Aftersun

I think it's nice that we share the same sky.

Aftersun is a lot of things all at once, it’s both joyful and deeply sad. It captures the carefree spirit of a childhood vacation while letting the silence in between the fun speak volumes. It’s about being too young to understand and too old to forget. More than anything, it feels like a poem, never outright explaining itself but instead letting its meaning emerge through feeling and memory.

Stay

★★★★ Liked Watched

If this is a dream, the whole world is inside it.

I trying to watch Stay when I was about 15 and not really getting into it. It just didn’t do much for me at the time. But revisiting it now, I ended up enjoying it a lot more. It gave me strong Jacob’s Ladder vibes, which is another film I’d really recommend if this one caught your interest. They both play around with perception and reality in ways…

I intend to enjoy the time I have left, and I suggest you do the same. Life is precious. Enjoy every single second. You never know when... Good luck.

Loved the lore and the extra backstory they gave to William "J.B." Bludworth, Tony Todd absolutely nailed it. And that final speech of his was really touching and beautiful.

Watching Death do its thing in the background during the neighborhood scene, instead of following it step-by-step like usual, was honestly such…

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness

★★★½ Liked Rewatched

You break the rules and become a hero. I do it and I become the enemy. That doesn't seem fair.

It’s a shame this had to be a sequel to WandaVision, because honestly? Multiverse of Madness isn’t that bad. I’ve seen it five times now (don’t ask), and while it’s definitely flawed, I still don’t think it deserves the beating it gets. Though judging by most people’s ratings, I’m clearly in the minority…

You’d think Raimi and company might have…

Melancholia

2011

I think Melancholia is extraordinary.

But it's also a film that can be difficult to fully appreciate or understand unless you’ve dealt with depression yourself. It’s hard to grasp why Justine is so deeply sad on what’s supposed to be the happiest day of her life. And in the second half, it’s equally hard to understand why she’s so calm and detached in the face of the world ending, while Claire spirals into panic.

There’s something about that which hits…
