Dune: Part Two

2024

★★★★ Liked

With Its dense foundation already laid out in part 1, Dune's continuation was able to slow the flow of information to a pace that felt more tempered. A great necessity, as part 2 is more about our main character's inner turmoil ; A struggle between power and justice, liberty and control, salvation and revenge.

Exploring these themes meant the film would concentrate on its characters this time around rather than the world containing them. And so, the story was able to slow down, building on the emotional stakes of each action and their impacts. I'm thinking of Paul's trials, the numerous acts of war (forced on or chosen), the practice of faith or the deliberate use of others. It all feels so large, from its presentation to its storytelling. All this even helped the score, being more selective with the heavier themes and letting in more silence, as to help the narrative breathe better.

The story took a big step forward from what was an already great start, and by the end it feels like ''This is only the beginning'' .
