There’s a scene played out through a series of living tableaus of the swing girls being chased through the woods by a wild boar to ‘What A Wonderful World’ by Louis Armstrong. The boar is defeated when one of the girls falls out of a tree and crushes its skull with their butt. Pure magic from start to finish.
“Do you ever feel evil?”
There’s a deep chill that whips through this movie. Everything is covered in snow while foreboding crows loom above. Everyone is a good and decent person until confronted with the possibility of mysterious, untold riches. Then all their humanity quickly disappears and the bodies start to pile up as they scramble to maintain the treasure for themselves. Brrrrr!
Great cast, great script, great direction. All in all just a really well-made, cold-blooded thriller. Love the fact that Paxton’s character already has a GOOD life but falls into darkness trying to manufacture a BETTER life for himself.
