Dune Part Two is not only Denis's magnum opus; it's the definitive sci-fi epic of a generation. A tragic tale of blind fanaticism, religious trauma, prophet worship, political & institutional corruption at the expense of one's personhood, that person being a young man trying to find his way and sense of self in an overbearing world of control. A spectacular, soulful, awe-inspiring masterclass of aesthetics & mood beautifully echoing Paul's turbulent journey. Left me speechless!

Zendaya's Chani was the standout for me. Floored by the complexity of her character and how organic & intimate her relationship with Paul was. Ferguson's Jessica is also fantastic. She kinda goes full mama bear to a fault. Butler is unhinged & unrecognizable. Super unsettling! Oh and I mean it goes without saying but outside of CMBYN, this is Chalamet's best performance. The anchor of the entire film. Such a nuanced, pained, perfectly angsty, wistful at times performance. You really feel the conflict within; goodness surrounded by anger.

The only thing I could think of leaving the theater is that some kid will watch Dune (parts one AND, especially, two) and feel EXACTLY what I felt watching Revenge of the Sith in theaters for the first time as a kid. A sweeping 00's style epic blockbuster that takes your breath away, makes you believe in what movies CAN be.

I'm still processing the experience & its been two days. The world, the ideas, the INSTANTLY iconic shots & setpieces, AN ALL TIME GREAT Hans Zimmer score haven't left me, nor will they for a long while. It's simply an overwhelming sensation. What a picture, man.
