Why be vague and evocative when you can have a guy rocking back and forth, buck naked, in the center of a septagram? That seems to be the modus operandi here: never let a silent moment without talking your ear off; never let an opportunity for austerity survive without a lethal dose of maximalism. While not my most disliked new release of the year, it's the most frustrating by far. Maybe two or three scenes post-intermission a thought occurred to me; it didn't let up for the remainder of the film's baffling second half: "this would be fantastic if everybody just shut the fuck up RIGHT NOW."
