David Lynch: The Art Life

2016

Dear David,

I’m sitting here, a little lost, trying to put into words what your work has meant to me. The world feels a little off today, like it’s lost some of its weird, wonderful magic. Hearing about your ing hit me harder than I expected. You weren’t just a filmmaker, you were a guide into the parts of our minds we’re too afraid or too curious to explore on our own.

From the first frame of Eraserhead, I knew…

Dhobi Ghat

2010

★★★★★ Liked Watched

To relive or to feel like reliving another person's life by watching mere videotapes or recordings is the most transcending feeling ever. If executed accurately, that weirdly blissful feeling can succumb you, can even strangely overwhelm you.

Dhobi ghat is the literal definition of 'being underrated'. People might find it slow, and I'm sure they will but that's what makes art films enjoyable, keeps em away from the unnecessary noise that people create.

This goes straight in to my favourite…

Ponyo

2008

★★★★½ Liked Watched

Ghibli movies are always such a comfort for me and my girl. Ponyo might just be the cutest movie I've ever seen in my entire life. Trisha’s heart couldn’t take it and honestly, neither could mine. My favorite part? Every time Ponyo randomly spits water on people. Hilarious!

Unfaithful

2002

★★★★ Liked Watched

This is maybe one of the best erotic thrillers I have ever watched. I was really liking it but it is humanely impossible to complete this movie with my girlfriend in a single sitting, no matter how much we tried we... 😫.

Also, Diane Lane looks so much like Blake Lively, the resemblance is almost uncanny.

Batman Ninja vs. Yakuza League

★★★ Watched

This is a very decent sequel to an amazing franchise. I loved the first one more I'm not sure why. Maybe it blended the ninjutsu elements so well with the bat’s story. This one gave me mixed feelings. Even though it was cooler in some ways, I still couldn’t figure out what was missing.

Hitch

2005

★★★½ Liked Watched

Hitch is actually really really funny, it made me crack so many times especially that Kung Fu shot scene in the speedboat. Will Smith really used to nail these roles perfectly during that period.

Also, as I've grown from my teens to my early and now late 20s, my tastes in movies have continuously evolved. Romcoms from that era have become one of my favorite genres with time. They always seem to give me a sense of warmth and comfort.
