It was uncomfortable at first to see smartphones, self driving cars, and AI in  Cronenberg.  However Videodrome  and eXistenZ were at one point, about cutting edge technology. Cronenberg is experiencing technology at the same rate everyone else is, just this is the first time I’ve seen one of his films when the technology was contemporary. 

The Shrouds felt like among many other things, a commentary on the trust we place in “smart” technology. My room mate asks ChatGPT for life advice…

Miscellaneous thoughts:
-Still not used to Nicholas Holt with hair
-Since this takes place in 1838 ,  Von Franz theoretically could of met Hegel, or at least know who the Young Hegelians were
-Surprised by how much I enjoyed Lily Rose-Depp’s performance but it’s uncanny how much she looks like her dad
-I liked the make up but Skarsgård looks creepy as hell already  
-This feels like a formsoft cutscene for both good and bad
-Cool use of shadows…
