Still on my Jake Gyllenhaal kick so thought I'd revisit this one from 2011. I saw this at the cinema and I was so sure it was a downer of a film. It's a strange one because for half the film you're led to believe Jake is dead and is only just going through the motions. For me, that felt like it was too much to really connect with emotionally and it left me cold.
On rewatch, that isn't really the case and I had just badly ed it. I found the ending hopeful and the whole film treats the audience with respect - providing a lot to think about at the same time as thoroughly explaining everything as it goes.
It's nice when sci-fi isn't why-fi.
