I only wish I'd seen this as a teenager tbh. Pretty great.
]]>I'm not really sure how movies like these get made, lots of questionable decisions involved. There's a shot focused on one character relating the events that unfolded at the start of the movie with an air of mystery for what felt like an hour?
Gore was pretty good overall especially for a low budget movie but that's about it.
Had the urge to re-watch for some reason, good fun.
]]>A nice dose of Australian grimness. It goes on for longer than necessary tbh but Caleb's performance is truly great.
The set of circumstances that led to this are truly unbelievable.
]]>I love the seamless blending of dreamy, comedic, scary and tender scenes. I love how easily a simple camera movement can bring back a threatening atmosphere at unexpected times. This is my first Lynch since his ing and, of course, I'm left with a certain melancholy and an urge to celebrate rather than dwell on any flaws or whatever so idk if I should be trying to review anything at all. This is just an excellent display of what makes his work so unique and certainly an intense experience.
Best botched murder for hire ever tbh.
]]>I won't claim this is perfect but it is ionate cinema and it is amazingly contagious and exciting. I'm glad I went in blind most of all. We're so back.
]]>Been waiting so long for a Gareth Evans movie. There's some top notch, exciting close combat gun action and camera work here as expected but it fails to reach the highs of that one Gangs of London episode (difficult not to compare). The storytelling is too convoluted for its own good but I could say the same for most of his projects. I just think he needs a better writer for his future films cause the script seems to be the one thing holding him back from greatness.
So... enjoyable but disappointing. Still, I'll be there for whatever he comes up with next.
]]>What a fucking nightmare
]]>I wasn't really into it at first but it did get better, I don't know. Guess I expected a more "The Mist"-like scenario with much more body horror and I also just didn't care much for the protagonist so it felt a bit dull despite the cool creepy crawly action.
]]>Hadn't watched this since I was like 10 or something. Decent remake overall, nowhere close to the original sadly but it tries a couple different things which turn out to be pretty creepy.
Gets extra points for introducing me to Leatherface and Jessica Biel as a kid though.
]]>Daring for sure but it doesn't really amount to anything. Still manages to be quite effective despite the very amateurish early youtube video look.
]]>Meiko Kaji was born to show the true face of disdain on the big screen tbh.
What I loved here were largely visual stylistic choices because story-wise it left a lot to be desired. It looks fucking cool and Meiko is badass so thumbs up.
]]>Fuck yeah tbh
]]>Loved the high energy and oppressive atmosphere. Wild editing. I got a bit lost in its weirdness which just felt tedious at times but it did keep me glued to the screen. I'm not entirely sure what to make of it, really. Lots to love though.
]]>No Wild at Heart mention :(
Fun times just safer than I expected. It could've taken a couple more risks considering the crazy premise.
Owning the Mandy chainsaw would be pretty sweet tbh

]]>Overly long and ultimately empty.
]]>Pretty fucking excellent tbh, a very different and heartwarming (for the most part) take on the genre. Sanada is too good.
]]>Just dull, not particularly interesting in either style, character or story. I was really hoping to like it but I guess it's just not for me though it seemed right up my alley. Oh well.
]]>I don't know why I thought I was watching a Louis Malle film when I started this, I realized it was Bresson by the way the characters were moving. Strange feeling. This sadly fits our present time quite well, I'm not sure what to make of it. Sort of reminded me of Agnès Varda's Vagabond.

]]>Such a familiar feeling throughout, I think this will stay with me for a while. Lovely movie.
]]>This was truly grim although the score seems a bit out of place, it's more heroic and epic than it should be, doesn't really suit the mood. Great, despicable villains. The ending was a bit rushed but it did keep me guessing and distressed. Fucked up.
]]>I loved the dreamy tone and atmosphere of loneliness and paranoia but the screenplay fell short. That and a couple of supposedly threatening scenes felt a bit silly. Great performance by the lead actress.
]]>everything is always really sad at approximately any given moment tbh

]]>Fuck off, this is certified kino. It's been a while but I believe I enjoyed it more than the previous three movies combined. ittedly, you can win me over pretty quick with some samurai antics but that was just the icing on the cake, great to see how far this franchise has come. Color me impressed by the amount of bullshittery they were able to cram into this one. Great cast. Amazing action sequences. Love it. Cinema.

]]>Starting your movie announcing it's "SHOT ON 35MM FILM" doesn't make me excited, it makes me think you're annoying and up your own ass. Not to mention the what, three opening scenes in there? I thought it could win me over but I just felt like someone was pointing at the screen and telling me "look at how clever I am!" for the whole thing.
Pretty good performances though.

]]>First re-watch in years, I forgot how funny it was. The quintessential romantic movie for awkward people tbh, thanks
]]>Sweet
]]>ur my affliction tbh
First film of the year and it's pretty great. I really wasn't too excited about this remake but it manages to stand on its own which is pretty amazing. Incredible atmosphere and performances, I felt asphyxiated for a good portion of the film (might've been the sheer amount of popcorn). Although it slowed down a bit too much for my liking during its last hour but I had a great time. We're so back.
]]>Dialogue took me out of it sometimes but I enjoyed this one.
]]>After birth/rebirth I wanna watch everything Laura Moss' made, I hope she makes another film soon.
]]>Got dark pretty quickly, I must say it has a great antagonist, a real villain. The ending didn't work for me though.
]]>Could've done without the "TKNOGD" segment tbh though it had some cool fx. Otherwise, pretty strong entry overall.
]]>Pretty wild. Not the greatest acting but it only really bothered me in a couple scenes, Mary's voice reminded of Anya Taylor Joy (though I guess it should be the other way around). Special effects were pretty cool. I'm surprised, I expected it to be much different tbh but it was certainly disturbing.
Some more editing would've been great cause some things weren't really necessary, especially a scene that's very out of character and doesn't really lead anywhere near the end but very minor overall.
]]>A lot of suspense and build up for... nothing, really.
]]>I thought it would be more serious but I ultimately enjoyed it for what it is. Very annoying protagonist. The actress' voice is really cool.

]]>Can't believe I didn't watch this sooner. Super dark in every way, unsettling and really good performances. I don't know what else to say tbh, just sad that I can't really recommend this to anyone. Great, effective filmmaking.
]]>Gruesome although it didn't feel particularly new or engaging aside from the animation and design, the story just wasn't enough for me but I did like all the weirdness. Amazing effects though and it does great creating an eerie, disorienting effect. Also, Aisling is so incredibly pretty she just distracted me even more, great to see her in new things.
]]>Excruciatingly long and filled with stupid decisions, wouldn't bother me as much if the cameramen weren't so stupid though. I liked Nim.
]]>Didn't it expect it to be that good, seems like supernatural horror is doing better lately.
]]>Not a great entry, the second and last segments were the best for me though the second one could've been so much greater, it ultimately fell short and left me frustrated thinking about its potential. Cool special effects in the last one, loved Mabel but that's about it.
]]>Definitely an improvement over the first one. Pretty wild and intense acting though the writing could be better.
Lamento no haberla visto antes.
]]>There's a lot I love in here (even when it doesn't make sense) but it went for way too long.
]]>It ended up falling a bit short with its premise but it's pretty unique and intimate, really liked their approach. Definitely better to watch it knowing as little as possible.
