The aesthetic is beautiful. The music/score ia so incredible that it also feels like a crutch. Invading too many scenes, making it feel so overly dramatic and uneven. Though the irish folk music was a surprise. Its trying to say a lot of things. A good handful not really landing for me. A mix of tones and genres not really committing to anything. With the ending feeling not only rushed, but messy. But Its got a style that you can't help be drawn too. Selfish, horror me wanted a little more of a vampire story. Which I think was falsely d. But the practical effects and blood were also great. And the ominous whispering of "cornbread" is an all timer. And thanks for color-coding the Michael B. Jordans. That helped a lot lol. And the Native American Vampire Hunters never showed back up :( lame

They really went all in on the Entity and end of the world stuff. But damn did Cruise and company pull it off. Everyone played this so seriously and overly dramatic. But I loved every minute of it. Could have been silly/gimmick, but there's so much craft here that locks you in. The pacing was phenomenal. Hardly did i feel that runtime as this thing is just barreling forward.

And my goodness, that underwater scene. Tom filling up that chamber and the aspect ratio changing in sync. What beautiful, beautiful stuff. And then its what feels like 15 minutes of almost no dialouge. Just underwater struggles. I live for this.

Damn near had a heart attack at the end of this one. Some intense stuff. A proper use of nostalgia, and a nice little ending.

The absolute most fun way to do a sort of legacy sequel/spin-off(?). Whatever it is, its awesome. Takes everything up a notch. We still get plenty of Rube Goldberg machines of death. But this one is all about having fun. A Lighthearted feeling, yet heavily gross and gory. Cgi gory, but it all looked great. The humor lands. And this film doesn't give a heck about nothing. The Friday the 13th franchise lives and dies by the amount of shitty/disposable characters that inhabit it. The kills are cool. But without memorable characters, there's nothing that lingers or makes it stand out. Now, I grew up with Jason X. I that VHS copy sitting on my shelf. So there's some nostalgia at play.

But this goes into bozo territory in a memorable way. It still holds up. And the characters, maybe disposable, have character. It's self aware. The dialouge, awful. But the characters play it well. But the rest is trash. Ted is garbage. Oh you just randomly stumble across two smoking hot twins in the woods wearing matching outfits, who skinny dip, and then just go back to the house with yall? No backstory. No nothing. What terribleness of characters. Crispin Glover dancing is good though. And Corey Feldman shaving his head in mere seconds then going freak mode is superb.

Hands down the best Friday the 13th. Not taking anything too seriously, you can see they're having fun with this one. As its also the most self aware in the series. And my favorite deaths as well. The RV scene is an absolute all timer. And he kills like what, 9 or 10 people in the first 30 minutes? Brutal. Love this one.

"Why wouldn't you just get another burrito, Todd?"

Hilarious. Don't know why it's been so long for a rewatch. Throws the boundaries out the window, and compels you to laugh at, and through these traumas. Class warfare, definitely at its most funniest. And its strengths lie in its uncomfortable and awkward/taboo approach. Sure its stupider than hell, but man does it have some good bits (obviously not for everyone). To include the absolute most rockin tune, "Everything Louder Than Everything Else" by the late and great Meat Loaf.

The minds behind Meg 2: The Trench forgot Jason Statham is our Last Action Hero, and throws him into fighting goons who are dumping toxic waste in our beautiful ocean. We got classic Statham hand to hand combat in the first 5 minutes, hell yeah.

And then they just proceed to throw all logic and reason out the window for this one. I respect it. Doning deep-sea armor suits while evading Megalodon and other sea creatures, hell yeah ×2. Megalodon death by harpoon, hell yeah ×3. Megalodon death by helicopter blade, hell yeah ×4. A kraken, hell yeah ×5. Dinosaurs, hell yeah ×6. The list goes on.

It's all silly stuff. But its a lot of hell yeah silly stuff. And I appreciate the darker, underwater tone of the first half.

Director's Cut

Continues what it did with the first part with it's brutality and gore. Heads are obliterated and blood is everywhere. The action in the back half is just absolutely spectacular. The casting is perfect. Sofia Boutella is supremely badass, and they all work well together. Again, you get a little more of this one with the inclusion of mythology surrounding Issa. Sadly, I don't think we'll get a part 3. But for a Netflix funded action/sci-fi, displaying vision and craft from its director, its wholly special. Love the tone. Love these characters. And as always, love the slowmo.

The Unbearably Long Director's Cut

Even with this being over 3 hours, its still a fun ride. Takes it time getting the band together. We get a little more backstory here and there. Gives us some more insight on characters motivations. Plus Robo Jimmy gets a little more/different screen time. And what i love about this is how it dives a tad bit more into the Issa mythology.
And this is how I like my sci-fi intergalactic conflicts. Mean and bloody. At times feels mean just to be mean. And the blood is all cgi, but it looks good. And the action is superb. It's all my jam.

**mini rant** If you don't like this, thats fine. But to see it dragged through the mud just because its popular to hate Zack Snyder is just wrong. And that this film has the same or lower rating than trash movies like Electric State or even Atlas is unforgivable lol.

Absolutely bonkers. Lovely throwback style thats heavily influenced by a bunch of stuff but retains its own individuality. A great, small cast all turning out unique performances. Love seeing horror queens Jocelin Donahue, Alex Essoe, and Barbara Crampton in the same movie. Brings an effective tension. And an all-timer of a standoff. And it ends on a rather sad note which I respect. Crime just does not pay. Great little flick. Oh! And I love the cut off when the movie title is about to be said. Awesome.

This film just rips. As sad as it is brutal. As mean as it is gritty. And there are few better to play this role than Kevin Bacon. Him on the floor of the convenience store, crying out for help, holding his son. Scene stays with you. His transformation into an absolute monster.

With this coming out after Saw and Dead Silence, we still get that saturation. We still get that Saw-esque score that i love with all my heart. And action with all the brutality of a horror film. Its a run of mill action movie story, but so damn elevated in the hands of James Wan, Leigh Whannell, and Kevin Bacon. An absolute gem of movie.

The cherry on top is the shitty, choppy buzzcut. It means fucking business. It means there is nothing left to lose. It means absolute war. I love it.

Some really cool and dry, desert vibe noir. Val Kilmer was one of the best to do it. Michael Madsen, also cool, but a real sob. Classic noir vibes with the murder, femme fatale, our down on his luck hero, gullible, even explosions. Set in Reno, NV. Very nice. Everyone plays it great, and there are quite a few thrilling moments and unexpected turns. Loved.

Hands down most annoying kid in a movie ever. I will not entertain any opposition. At the same time its the most blue collar American movie ever. I mean, a truck driving, arm wrestling, delinquent dad named Lincoln Hawk trying to make amends with his son and ultimately gain custody WHILE ALSO winning the Las Vegas Arm Wrestling Championship with a grand prize of a brand new semi truck and 100k. Thats what its all about, baby. I won't lie, something about this movie gets me jacked up. Wanting to turn my baseball cap backwards and say bad words.

I loved this so much when it came out that I read the book and everything. But the older I get I see just how cheap feeling this is. It's watchable and there's some stuff to like about it, but it feels pretty hollow.

However the penthouse fight is an all timer and the last 20 minutes or so are pretty fun. But all in all, its going to be a while before I rewatch this one again.

Visiting San Francisco with my friend at the age of 14. We go into a video rental store. There's an entire JCVD section (more like shrine. JCVD is worshipped in SF and rightfully so).
