The Coffee Table is a fine watch - it manages its tension and trauma well. But dare I say I found it a bit underwhelming? My fault, of course, for reading reviews. But a lot of people implied this was going to be one of the most shocking and dark films I’d ever see: it was far from that as everything’s merely suggested rather than played out on screen. I’ll it, this wasn’t what I expected to be. But that isn’t a bad thing at all. I expected an all-out kung fu fest with Kenji Tanigaki modernizing the old school “shapes” style of yesteryear. That isn’t the case.

Sometimes movies just hit. It could be a film everyone else dislikes or others feel is very lukewarm. But it’ll check off a million of your personal boxes and you’ve just jive with it.

That’s Baby Assassins for me. I fucking LOVED this film. I almost gave it five stars but thought that might be a little severe. So I settled on four and a half. But deep down in my man-plums, I know it’s a five.
