Finlay’s review published on Letterboxd:
All the waiting is finally over and Denis Villeneuve does not disappoint. Cinematography was absolutely mind blowing and so was the music. So many massive actors in this and they are all great but I’d say the standout was Javier Bardem, I really liked how his character was so blinded by his beliefs that he’d take any minuscule thing as being a sign that Paul was the prophet. I thought all the messages about religion and politics were really interesting and well done in this. The three main harkonnens in this film also made for really good and unlikeable villains aswell especially Austin Butler. Was also really impressed and surprised with the way that they handled Paul Atreides and the direction he takes towards the end. He’s seeming more like Anikan rather than Luke and I can’t wait to see where that goes in the next film. Some really great hand to hand combat scenes also.
This is probably one of the best sci-fi films I’ve seen and probably one of the best sequels I’ve seen as I think it improves on the already brilliant first film in pretty much every way I can think of. I loved this so much I could have sat and watched it again as soon as it ended. I need the next one injected into my veins now. Just incredible.
