This is a fairly interesting time capsule of a movie in that we see (played against the backdrop of WW2) a blueprint for progressivism in the 20th century in the microcosm of a submarine. There’s a lot of window dressing here about politics and society and etc. Don't try to litigate every possible analogy. What is the significance of the Soviet satellite? Of the fraudulent virgin pop singer? I don’t think you’ll get anywhere trying to puzzle those out with any definite coherence.
