There are movies that some think should only be seen on the big screen because they lose impact at home. People often cite Lawrence of Arabia as an example. Sure, you can't beat a film on 70mm or IMAX. But unless you have unlimited access to your own private theater, watching your own personal copy is pretty much the only choice you have. I made sure to see this several times in the theater, but I love watching big larger than life movies at home as well. Even if I don't have the biggest and most immersive home theater set-up, I still can watch nearly all of my favorite movies at home and still get a satisfying experience. Mad Max: Fury Road still kicks all of the ass at home and while Dune: Part Two might lose a little impact in certain moments, it's still impressive to watch on a television.
I'm glad that Liz and I finally watched both parts back-to-back and that they do feel like one huge movie. Despite it being dethroned by Furiosa for my favorite movie of the year, this is still quite the picture. Truly stunning in every aspect.
