how did no one realize how ironic it is that the ACTUAL CANONICAL DEMON in the movie is the one to spout the right-wing rhetoric? like he’s the one that literally tells the main character that abortion is murder, AND THEN THE MAIN CHARACTER IS LIKE “DAMN, YOU'RE SO RIGHT!”

Haha I feel swindled. What I thought was going to be a lowkey supernatural horror was ACTUALLY some right-wing propaganda spewing that demons are in fact real and so is God. Also, all encounters with some type of evil are apparently enough reason to convert any atheist. Believe!

In all seriousness, the setup is actually sufficient and intriguing. There’s a confidence in the filmmakers’ approach that’s commendable. “Went in blind,” as our movie group watches literally every movie that comes to the local Regal… and reallly should have investigated this one before going.

It’s the prequel to books written by Conservative talk show host Steve Deace, a self-itted anti-homosexual, anti-trans Christian.

The convoluted agenda is all over this crap movie. Glenn Beck’s very bloated body and face even make an appearance.

The audience was all men… who we literally saw praying in the theater lobby afterward.

Fuck everyone involved in making this, distributing it, and seeing it (including me for not researching ahead of time).

Is this obviously a political piece? Yes.
Does it make valid points? Yes.
If you can't watch this without immediately getting defensive or thinking about any of it without getting offended, perhaps you need to take a second to wonder why.
This was a budget movie that was very well made and filmed. It goes to show you can make a good film without having a high budget.

So, I don’t know how this happened, but the writers of God’s Not Dead actually made a movie that is 85% genuinely good. Sean Patrick Flanery is excellent. There are some very obvious reasons people will hate it, not the least of which is how brutally it hits America’s beloved institution of baby murder, so take all the negative reviews with a tablespoon of salt. There’s one noticeably forced moment of dialogue that’s there to check conservative talking point boxes, and the ending sequence with Glenn Beck was poorly conceived (dude subscribes to a religion that originated with a demon talking out of a hat lol), but, at the end of the day, Nefarious is worth watching: a very encouraging step forward for Christian media.

So I wasn’t really planning on watching this after the mixed to negative reactions, but they were screening this as part of this movie conference I assisted, and so I decided to give it a shot out of sheer curiosity.

And you know what? It was fine. It definitely shoots for a more Christian audience, but at the same time, the whole discourse on some of the controversial topics it touches on wasn’t as on the nose as I was expecting, and it’s not like it stops to preach to you about their stances on things like abortion or euthanasia but makes it part of its story. If for nothing else, credit due to Nefarious for being a different kind of demonic possession film. We don't get the inverted crosses, the projectile vomit, the bendy bodies, or anyone shouting "The Power of Elvis compels you" (or some such variant). But we also get a Trojan Horse horror show that has annoyed people for being tricked into seeing it.

The flick is about a psychiatrist who must determine if a convicted serial killer is sane enough to be executed. The villain claims to be a demon and the film evolves into a philosophical, ethical, and religious one-on-one debate.
