A compelling rustic drama that deals with the masculine ego conflict between an honest police officer and a rich spoiled brat. For a near 3 hour movie, it gets grippingly executed with a well paced organic narrative that sustains its intensity throughout. The writing, music and cinematography are in perfect sync escalating the tensed undercurrent in a spectacular fashion. For a dialogue heavy content, its razor sharp and further enhanced by its masterful casting. Biju Menon and Prithviraj deliver solid performances in their respective roles locking horns with each other by setting their ego tussle on fire. A Must Watch !!!
A true masterclass in dialogue writing. Just imagine a 2 hour 50 min action film without much action and more of dialogues, but still manages to grip you throughout its runtime....now that's what I call a great skill.
The beauty of this film is that the protagonist sometimes becomes the antagonist and vice versa and for the most part you don't know who to root for and I can't recalls the last time I've experienced such a dilemma or rather such an emotion, and all the props goes to the writing of such great complex characters.
Sachy the writer and director of the film has truly established himself as a brand in Indian cinema who makes such mass mobster films…
AK Ayyappanum Koshiyum : The Subtle Art of Conflict Among Masculinity, Morality, and Masterful Writing.
AK Ayyappanum Koshiyum by Sachy, he has done a job in maintaining the intense in the plot throughout and is brilliantly written the drama that delves into the clash of two strong-willed men from contrasting backgrounds. It’s not just a tale of personal rivalry, but a layered commentary on oppressed masculinity, caste, and authority.
Tbh Sachy’s direction is very precise, and his screenplay is nothing short of exceptional for a movie which is almost 180 minutes with heavy dialogue, yet keeping it consistently gripping. The slow-burn narrative gradually builds into a powerhouse of tension, where every confrontation feels earned. Biju Menon and Prithviraj Sukumaran delivers…
At one point, one character says to the other,
"Are you sweating already?"
The other replies
"To make me sweat, you will have to sweat a lot yourself."
...Is this flirting?
A lot of people found a homo-erotic subtext in War (2019), which I frankly didn't at all. But I did see it here.
The situations and violence is so childish and even if the characters themselves take it very seriously, there is a certain looseness and frustration in everyone else with regards to the petulance of male ego.
Violence is absurd and funny. This film makes you see it.
Parajan Sir, this happened.
Driving Licence and Ayyappanum Koshiyum have a similar beginning and ending and yet what makes the journey between these two points so different is the way Sachy drives the conflict home despite riding on the same star-vehicle and the literal car-vehicle that set off the egos and misunderstandings in motion for both the journeys.
Cloaked in black beard, white mundu,…
Ayyappanum Koshiyum is glorious till the point when it ends. After that, it's just another movie that you saw.
Watched FDFS.
‘Ayyappanum Koshiyum’ is a gritty “do or die” version of ‘Driving Licence’. Both Prithviraj and Biju Menon are in fierce form here, scoring neck and neck. The film could have used some trimming though, especially in the second half when the plot points start to go round in circles. The runtime of 177 minutes is a bit exhaustive, given the simplicity of the thread. Anyways, as it is, ‘Ayyappanum Koshiyum’ is a fairly entertaining action drama which gives us a feel that we are the spectators of a long-drawn-out neighborhood brawl. I enjoyed it.
