Dune: Part Two

2024

I just know there’s now gonna be people calling Timothée Chalamet Muad’Dib whenever he’s in public and that’s very funny to me.

The spice has finally made me see what so many others see. After not giving a second thought about Dune since my first and only watch, this sequel is much better. I found myself more engaged and actively into it. Not much needs to be said about the technical side, it’s the juggernaut we all expect as Denis Villeneuve, Greig Fraser, Hans Zimmer and company deliver the goods. Whatever the budget was, it was put to damn good use. I’m not going to pretend I understand or really deeply care about the story or characters because I don’t. This just isn’t a world I’m that infatuated with. Probably 90% of us letterboxd s would not survive a week on Arrakis. But, the drama presented is INTENSE and the top rate filmmaking as well as the commanding performances are what truly got me hooked.

Chalamet is becoming more of a man in this role. While parts are still a bit funny or hard to believe, such as him making Dave Bautista run away scared or him defeating people in hand to hand combat, I guess it’s easier to digest this time around. Paul Atreides is no longer the chosen boy wonder, he’s basically God now. Love that Zendaya has a more prominent role in this sequel, she’s fierce. Great cast all around and they all performed well.

Hopefully enough years will before Messiah that I’ll have more of a desire to rewatch these entries beforehand.

Question: How does one get a sandworm to stop? Seems like a very troublesome mode of transportation. Looks cool and funny at the same time though.

I refuse to pronounce Arrakis any other way than Arra-key! More fun that way.
