Tora, Tora, Tora is one of the few major WW2 era films I hasn't seen yet.
One of the greatest main themes I've heard ngl, Jerry Goldsmith went CRAZY on that closing and opening themes.
The film is huge, in its size, in its scale, having entirely separate Japanese and American productions that are then edited together to make one ginormous film that tells the Prelude and Day of Pearl Harbor makes this film impressive not just for 1970, but by today's standards too.
The way everything is done and written, the actual attack, it's some of the most impressive WW2 filmmaking I've ever seen, completely understand why this film is held on such a pedestal as it is.

]]>Easily the best of the first three, felt like there was an actual narrative going on, didn't just feel like scene after scene of nonsensical stuff the way most of New Moon and some of Twilight felt.
]]>Yikes, a lot of nothing happening for an hour and then 30 minutes of everything happening but none of it making sense. Good job picking a location for filming that wasn't a forest for once.
]]>Might be a tad too long and some scenes didn't hold my attention as much as others, but with this stacked of a cast, and with this kind of editing and intensity it's hard not to be enthralled by this film.
]]>1941 very well may be one of the most annoying films I've ever seen in my life, loud, obnoxious, every character talks and acts like they're the funniest person in the world when in actuality, the film is one of the most unfunny ones I've experienced. And yeah, comedy is subjective, but I genuinely think this is one of the only times that Speilberg completely missed the mark.
Historically, it's not the box office flop people think it was, it more than made back its budget and while it wasn't as successful as some of Speilberg's others like Jaws and Close Encounters, it did fine for itself.
But box office aside, this was a film that ultimately determined how Speilberg would approach filmmaking in the 80's and beyond, he's said himself that 1941 was the culmination of an unrestrained ego and hubris he'd obtained during the success of Jaws and Close Encounters, and that he kind of thought he was the hottest director who could do no wrong when making 1941, then it was critically panned on release and he decided to restrain himself far more for Raiders of the Lost Ark and E.T.
1941 failed so that Speilberg could really find himself as a director.
I will say tho, that main theme by John Williams goes insanely hard in comparison to the quality of the film.

]]>Everything involving the actual newspaper was great and had me pretty enthralled.
And when Meryl became way more involved in the publishing later on I was more into her stuff as well, but sometimes, mostly early on, I wasn't as into her part of the film as I wish I was.
]]>Christian Bale's Jim was kind of annoying far too many times and a hot take is that I don't think John Williams' optimistic score works for a film like this.
But I really enjoyed it overall, didn't feel like 2 and a half hours at all.
]]>Uncharted meets Indiana Jones with that Speilberg charm. Surprisingly fun.
]]>Watched on Monday May 26, 2025.
]]>Was not as bad as I expected, was bracing myself for very very bad but nope! Kinda cringe but surprisingly watchable.
]]>Can't believe I waited so long to see this, great film, Coogler, Jordan, Göransson, you put all three together and you're gonna get peak.
]]>Unfortunately The Final Reckoning starts with an hour that is amongst some of the messiest and most convoluted big budget film I've seen in a WHILE, it felt messy enough and self referential to the point that honestly what it was reminding me of......was The Rise of Skywalker.
After that for the following two hours it really does clean itself up and becoming something that's a must see cinema experience, the underwater/ Submarine sequences and then the airplane sequences are easily up there with some of the coolest and most intense things this franchise has ever done.
But overall Final Reckoning takes a slight different approach than the rest of the entries, becoming far more about the story than the action or the set pieces, and while sometimes that works really well, I do unfortunately thing the story department is the thing that needed a major overhaul for this film.
]]>Makes no sense that I was disappointed in this when it first came out because holy shit this one rocks so much, just cool people doing cool shit while cool music plays for 3 hours.
]]>I think it's pretty easily became my favourite action film of all time and just simply one of my favourite films of all time. There's nothing about Fallout that isn't peak or doesn't work, it's 2 and a half hours of just non stop intensity, it never let's up, it never gives you a second to breathe, it's the Magnum Opus of the Mission Impossible franchise.
]]>Still think there's a pretty major drop off between 3 - 4 and this one but God Rebecca Ferguson is SUCH a great addition, she brings so much, and every scene with her and Tom is fantastic (she better be in Final Reckoning)
Ending sequence of this one is also better than the endings in 2 and Ghost Protocol imo.
]]>I still love this film but I do find it to be the one that I like just slightly less on every rewatch. Everything in Dubai is fantastic and rivals the best of the franchise easily, no matter how I many times I see that whole part of the film it still hits.
But the antagonists, the overall story, it leaves a bit to be desired, and while there's that certain energy to the fighting that Brad Bird brings I think visually there's something less interesting about this films style in comparison to the first three films, 1, 2 and 3 all have something that visually makes them standout and make them all feel like a period piece in a lot of ways, 1 is clearly 90's action, 2 is clearly 2000's action, 3 has that hand held, gritty style to it that you only get in the late 2000's, but the style and visuals in Ghost Protocol just feel like generic action that may have been fresh in the early 2010's but feels very generic and played out today because most modern action films look and feel just like this.
I don't know, still fantastic, still love it a lot, just the more I watch it the less it stands out amongst the rest of the franchise.
]]>PSH is pretty easily the best villain in this entire series.
]]>A great first 10 minutes, an awesome main theme, and some cool action in the final half hour fo not make the other 1 hour 20 of boring stuff worth it.
But Tom Cruise is cool as hell in this one.
]]>It might be the coolest one of the lot just in of it's style, the kind of shots that DePalma uses makes this be the one film that sticks out as focused on spy shit and stealth shit.
And no matter how many times I see it, the CIA HQ and Helicopter sequences never fail to get me hyped.
]]>Visually stunning and impossible to dispute what this film did for Sci-Fi in Movies and TV, it's right up there with 2001: A Space Odyssey and Star Wars as really redefining the space genre.
I also really liked how eerie and creepy those final 20 or so minutes get once starts to be made, and the Mother Ship design is fantastic.
But overall I did find this a far more tedious and boring experience than I expected it to be, it kind of reminded me of 2001 in that respect where I'm trying SO hard to get invested and enjoy it for what it is, but there's so little going on that I can't really get into it nearly as much as I'd like to.
]]>Newman's just pretty easily one of the best composers out there
]]>That random ass Liam Neeson scene genuinely bumps this whole film up an entire half star, why was that so funny
]]>Hadn't seen it in over 10 years, genuinely a LOT better than I ed it being.

]]>Watched on Sunday May 4, 2025.
]]>Some of the film was a little too TV movie/ Lifetime movie/ sentimental for my liking but the stuff that was actually on the plane was really really enjoyable and interesting.
]]>I thought Chalamet was extremely good as Dylan but overall I do really think the film just felt aimless, like it was drifting from scene to scene without ever exactly giving you much of an insight into the people it was about, like I knew barely anything about Bob Dylan before this film, and I've come out of it feeling exactly like I did before going in, like nothing was gained and nothing was really said throughout the runtime. It felt like it just gave you these tiny snippets of him and never went far enough or deep enough to expand on anything or leave an impact on you. A little frustrating because I'm confused why this got an oscar nom for best picture when there were so many better films last year that didn't get that nom but should have.

I absolutely loved this, I think the dynamic between the actual Thunderbolts was fantastic, the perfect way to introduce Sentry into the MCU. Minor complaints is that I actually thought Val's politics stuff throughout was the more boring part of the film, similarly the character of Mel/ Songbird felt like an extreme afterthought, and surprisingly, I thought Bucky was barely used to his full potential at all in the film, the trailers made it seem like he'd be the co-lead almost alongside Yelena but in the actual film he's just doing boring politics stuff and shows up once every 15 minutes until the Third act.
Everyone else though? Perfection. Yelena was an extreme standout, the stuff with her and Alexi and Bob in the backhalf of the film genuinely made me emotional, and I appreciated the fact that this film actually had something real to say when it came to Yelena's past and how she's been on this suicidal downward Spiral and is trying to get herself out of it.
Ava/ Ghost had less to do but tbh I'm just glad she got to come back to the MCU. Really liked a lot of what they did with Walker, same with Alexi and Bob, just a really well written group of characters and the dialogue just doesn't let up when a scene is focused on them together.
I had a theory a year ago that the asterix meant one of three things, that the title at the end of the movie would either change to "Sentry and The Thunderbolts", "The Dark Avengers" or "The New Avengers" and I'm so happy that I ended up being right because it just works.
Everyone has been speculating for the past year that Taskmaster was gonna die immediately and that she was placed into that one shot in the first trailer to throw everyone off, and then everyone was like "No she's actually a huge part of the film and Marvel's playing into the, she's gonna die, angle" and no ofc that wasn't true 😭
]]>Thunderbolts Rewatch #4
People can say the MCU is washed all they want, no one can dispute that this film along with Endgame absolutely took the world by storm.
]]>Thunderbolts rewatch #3
"We all need family. The Avengers are yours, maybe moreso than mine. I've been on my own since I was 18, I never really fit in anywhere, even in the army. My faiths in people, I guess, individuals, and I'm happy to say that for the most part they haven't let me down. Which is why I can't let them down either. Locks can be replaced, but maybe they shouldn't. I know I hurt you Tony, I guess I thought by not telling you about your parents I was sparing you, but, I can see now that I was only sparing myself, and I'm sorry. Hopefully one day you can understand. I wish we agreed on the accords, I really do. I know you're doing what you believe in, and that's all any of us can do, that's all any of us should.
So no matter what, I promise you, if you need us, if you need me......I'll be there"
My least favourite of the four Russo Marvels is still a fantastic film in almost every way, seeing the Avengers split up, seeing how easily and flawlessly this insane ensemble of characters flows in and out of the film. It works so well.
]]>Thunderbolts Rewatch #2
Just in absolute awe of this film everytime I see it, still the greatest movie to come out of the MCU, everything in it works impossibly well, one of my favourite films of all time.
]]>Thunderbolts Rewatch #1
Can never get enough of this film ngl
]]>Watched on Monday April 28, 2025.
]]>Oh this was kind of awesome ngl, easily the best of the three Jack Ryan films from this era.
Cast is insanely stacked, almost every second scene had someone pop up where i was like "Oh my god, they're in this?", the scale of the film was crazy and so much bigger than the rest of the films, the action scenes were good, the small political intrigue scenes were great, it almost felt Mission Impossible at times.
