maybe more dense with sadness because it's unable to outwardly say the problem at the heart of the film. it's not possible, both within the narrative of the film and the film itself, to say the simple fact that tom lee is gay. it gives john kerr's strange and awkward performance a kind of powerful introversion that certainly felt familiar to me, growing up as a queer child without the words to understand myself.
