I CAN'T even describe how disappointed i am. i loved the book sm and it had such a special place in my mind that i thought the movie would give me the same feeling. the cast got me really excited at first too, but everything was so empty and poorly handled. the script didn’t bother to explain any of the motivations behind what was happening, and the relationships were made SO SHALLOW and overly romanticized,,,,it was frustrating. i kept thinking the whole time that if i hadn’t read the book i wouldn’t understand A THING. they could’ve at least shown kathy’s reasoning for going there in the final scene. and why does kathy still look 18????!!!!!?! the only thing the movie got right was its visuals...the color palette and cinematography were beautiful.....the beach scene and the first 20 minutes at hailsham were gorgeous and made me think the film might turn out great. but the pacing was all wrong, the storytelling was thin, and the emotional depth of the book just wasn’t there. they had two hours to work with, and it feels like so much potential was wasted. honestly, someone needs to remake this.

it's the way he doesn’t care about the car coming straight at him, how he decides to go scuba diving without ever taking a single lesson, or how he stands on the edge of the balcony just to see if he’ll fall, it’s him swimming in the ocean fully clothed in the middle of the night or buying a rug he knows he can’t afford. it’s the way he felt everything all at once when sophie said she was mentally tired or how he cried alone in that room. the way it all ended: the story, the soundtrack, the silence. i knew the movie would totally mess me up, but watched it anyway. i cried in my room, in the bathroom, and when i went to the kitchen to get some water and calm down a bit, i started crying all over again

THAT acting......the bond, and the communication between them. also....poland??!! alongside all this sweetness, i wanna say that i’m SICK of movies portraying jews as victims,, lets talk about what they’ve done instead of what’s been done to them??????

it was so raw, and how everything we show and teach in love and affection is all connected............ and the skating metaphor at the end tore me to pieces. it felt like we were tobias’s friends, years later, listening to him talk about her, how he re everything, the good, the bad, the messy. it was so beautifully done. and then he could never have both. his wife left him because he wanted kids, and almut died bc they had them......... when the comp ended and they hugged, i started crying and couldn’t stop until the end. i feel so emotional about those last scenes,,,,,
