Dune: Part Two

Let’s Unpack Here…

a). Part One -> Part Two
The transition between entries in the series isn’t quite like A New Hope to The Empire Strikes Back, but I would say it’s more like Infinity War to Endgame; both are great, for different reasons and the successor is a worthy follow up.

b). The Plot
Two thirds of the film is focused on the Fremen culture and hyping Paul as the messiah, and then all hell breaks loose, which was fine because of the grace and sincerity Denis Villeneuve carried through and through.

c). Timothée Chalamet
Next to Call Me By Your Name, this is one of the most defining performances of his career; in Part One his portrayal of Paul is more reserved, but here, he is able break out of his shell and exhibit the true leadership qualities that Paul has and it’s just amazing to see.

d). Austin Butler
Unexpected favorite character, in other roles he’s very toned down, but here, he is unleashed in a very visceral, animalistic manner; would love to see the behind the scenes on those fighting sequences.

e). Greig Fraser and Hans Zimmer
Bravo, sirs, once again 👏👏👏 (probably my new favorite Composer/Cinematography tandem).

f). Anya Taylor-Joy
No comment.

g). Dune Messiah
Bring. It. On.

All in all, I was blown away by it and as always, IMAX IMAX IMAX!!!
