four fave scores

Meditative, humanist cinema, imbued with David Lynch’s unique eye, humour and warmth. Since David’s ing, the film takes on greater weight, Richard Farnsworth almost supernaturally channels the director in cadence and presence onscreen.
Shout out to the deer lady who has to drive those 40 miles everyday for work. Was lucky enough to see Studio Canal’s 4K remaster from the original 35mm camera neg, plus a new sound mix. It looked spectacular on the big screen. Another wonderful score from Angelo.
Its scarcity in physical media and absence on streaming, continues to perplex me!
Bold, bawdy, brilliant and batshit insane. You’ll either be dialled into its mischievous vibe or be perplexed by it. Coppola’s fable about building a society that can mimic the best of the family unit is overflowing with ideas, half-thoughts and pretensions. Yet it’s also a hysterical farce that’s anchored by an artist in his twilight years—showing a filmmaking eye that’s as sharp as ever—that still burns with optimism for the future and the people he will eventually leave behind to build it. A beautiful, gorgeous mess of art that I will revisit with glee for years to come.
