Aoife realized that Gabriela is only a year behind Tashi Duncan and Art Donaldson at Stanford
]]>Natalie
]]>One of his most emotionally rich movies by far. I think this is my favorite Owen Wilson performance too. Again, I love when he can break his style with some messy hand held stuff. That kind of rawness opens up the movie so much more. These three actors together is just magic.
]]>Embarrassed at how long it took for me to see this but man is this gas. He really does need to get back to finding the messiness within his symmetrical perfection. It feels so much more human when the style gets broken with the sloppier handheld stuff. I will be listening to Sue Jorge’s Bowie covers on repeat for the foreseeable future.
]]>Silly but fun! It has that “edited on Tik Tok” quality that new Hollywood movies have but the story was fun and very sweet. I’m a sucker for karate kid what can I say. Jackie Chan is just so god damn good and this Ben Wang kid is a star!
]]>Ok so like sure overall it’s a little clunky compared to the others but also this has to be some of the craziest stuff ever captured in film history. You really can’t deny how awesome it is. The diving sequence would be the biggest most insane set piece stunt of any other movie and yet here it’s just a piece of the puzzle. I don’t think I’ll ever stop thinking about the plane sequence for the rest of my life. I bet as soon as I see it again I’ll say it’s perfect. I love movies.
]]>I’m so ready
]]>This one strikes such a unique tone that sets it apart from the rest of the franchise. Some of the best action and twists and turns but also a really wistful atmosphere that is so juicy. It almost feels like they thought this would be the last one.
]]>This is actually not a dip in the franchise at all this rules and Rebecca Ferguson call me
]]>This was definitely just on in the background but that’s okay because it’s the one I have seen the most and also the most recently. Still an absolute banger. It was an impossible mission to let this just be background and not pull my full attention.
]]>You know I actually liked this a lot more this time around. Not sure what it is. Even though everything gets bigger and more insane from here on, there is definitely a really gripping horror to the stakes of this one that make it feel much more impossible than the other films. Phil Sey’s performance is so quietly terrifying.
]]>Stupid silly but hey why not
]]>What a starting point. The way these movies have evolved over the years is so much fun. Obviously I’m gonna try to rewatch all of them before seeing the new one.
]]>Everything Tim Robinson says or does is stupidly funny and I don’t think there’s many people with that kind of batting average. Paul Rudd id the perfect counterpart. Completely genreless and exactly how I want movies to feel. Could've watched three more hours
]]>I’ve been too busy to watch movies and it’s eating away at me so I’ve been watching this in bits and pieces on my phone for the past few days to feed my soul
]]>I’ve seen this movie more times than I can count but not in a theater since its release. Transcendent as ever but even more so on the big screen. There’s something new for me every time. Another Easter well spent.
HE (Sufjan) IS RISEN
]]>I have been moved by the Holy Spirit of Cinema.
HE (Michael B Jordan) IS RISEN
]]>A lot of really great gags but it just felt like something major was missing. It felt very hollow and I needed more sauce. It’s very funny but I’m not sure why it has the iconic status that it has
]]>An epic that deserves the biggest screen. I hope they re release all of Miyazakis movies in IMAX. Humanity is inherently destructive and there’s nowhere to put the rage toward those of us who are destroying the planet!
Also if you use the ghibli AI I fucking hate you and you’re dead to me. There’s a special place in hell for you!!!
]]>Perfect comedy. That’s how you do it baby nobody does it like Nichols and May. Robin and Nathan both give unbelievably vulnerable performances that only elevates the comedy. Mind boggling that the premise doesn’t even feel like ancient history anymore!
]]>Mr. Robocop your music saved me
]]>Forgot to log this but finally watched one of the only Wong kar-wai movies that I hadn’t seen! Crazy how much he was cooking right out of the gate. The story is a little lack luster but he still brings the magic. Those action sequences were all nuts. Top tier use of editing right at the end there.
]]>Oh my god this rocks. That opening shot. Also every shot after that too. Robbins is fantastic. It loses some steam as it goes on but is still such a blast.
]]>Ben Stiller was so ahead of his time with this. He also deployed the greatest director weapon which is casting Tom Cruise in a ing role. Few understand that this will take your movie to new heights. Dear Tom Cruise I love your movies but please go do things like this again.
Also I think Jack Black is one of our most talented actors of our time and it makes me so sad to see the types of movies he does now and what his career has come to.
]]>1) Rachel Zegler is a star and all of the haters can catch these hands. Go suck an egg
2) literally how did gal gadot get cast like did ten A listers say no and she was #11 on the list? She literally like doesn’t even know how to just stand and be a person. How did this decision make it past all of the people who have a say.
3) Dopey looked so fucked up
All in all has no reason to exist but also not as bad as I thought it was going to be
Are you British?
Are you British?
Let me give you a British answer then….
IT WAS MY CUP OF TEA
]]>What I can tell you is that seeing this on the Lincoln square IMAX was a religious experience. It’s kind of the only way this movie should be seen. There has never been and never will be anything like this movie.
Selena Gomez showed up to say hi after the movie and I was truly starstruck they could never make me hate you you’re my hero
]]>Annie Baker is a genius and her brilliance translates to the screen even better than I could have hoped. She just gets it. There is something so specific about late August in Massachusetts that is captured so beautifully in this film. It’s a movie you can smell. You can feel the whole environment so palpably. And that richness of environment elevates such simple yet powerful performances. THIS is how you properly use an episodic/chapter structure in a film. It needs to help tell the story. Brilliant.
]]>Unbelievably fun. Robby P is going bananas and this should be a lesson to every director that you gotta let him go crazy. Everyone else is excellent. Bong’s comedic sensibility is always great. Finding humor in very sinister grotesque situations without devaluing the stakes. I’m sure on another watch this could bump up!
]]>Completely devastating! Can’t even think about it! I know that Torres is excellent and getting a lot of praise but what needs more attention is these INCREDIBLE young actors. I was so blown away by their chemistry as a family. It made it so much more painful to watch.
]]>It still blows me away that this won best picture. It gives me hope for the academy but we need more things like this to get massive acclaim. It really says so much with so little. It actually lets the images tell the story so much more than the words. I also still don’t know how the three actors were able to create such a beautiful through line of the performances. It really feels like the same person. I got so much more out of it this time than I did when I was 16.
Also the swimming scene on IMAX was actually spiritual.
]]>gay son or Toth daughter
Still staggering, breathtaking, and all consuming. What lengths will you go to not have your dreams compromised? What does it even mean to compromise a dream? This movie will reveal new things to me every time I watch it.
]]>I fucking love Wallace and Gromit with all my heart. Gromit is my ride or die. I do think this didn’t need to be feature length and would have been perfect as the old school length. But beautiful sentiments about the dangers of removing the tedium of life. Fuck technology and everyone who is trying to develop and use AI you are all soulless clowns.
]]>I really wasn’t crazy about this mostly due to the script. I think the dialogue would’ve worked in a play but it sounded a little too structured for real life. Kieran is great but I don’t know about OSCAR worthy…..
But I think it was exploring some really interesting ideas around intergenerational trauma and the relativity suffering. Survivors guilt and trying to find your place in a very complicated history.
]]>Loved it. Exploring how the music and comedy worlds intertwined throughout the decades. Using snl as the throughline to speak on the cultural evolution of America since the 70s. I hope musicians keep using SNL to really experiment in the ways that people have in the past.
]]>So I was on my way to see the Brutalist again and then I’m already running late. Not too pressed because I’ve seen it already. I’m on the D and get to W4 and they kick everyone off to take the train out of service. So I hop on the C to make my way up to Lincoln Square and before I know it the train has gone express and I go from 50th all the way up to 125th. By the time I get to the amc at least an hour of the brutalist has gone by so I bail and see what else I can slip into and next thing I know I’m watching Harrison Ford slut himself out for that marvel check in Dolby vision.
]]>Totally forgot to log this. It’s a toss up for me because almost everything about this is so unbelievably up my alley but I felt like it was missing something that I can’t quite put my finger on. I felt similarly about the Northman. So much works and yet there’s something a little bit hollow about it. That being said I think Lily was spectacular but I wanted to spend even more time with her. Maybe I just felt like time was being spent in the wrong places I don’t know. I needed more inner emotional stakes to match the larger dramatic plot stakes.
And boy did that guy with the mustache need to moisturize!
]]>One of a kind. Really appreciated this kind of vulnerability. I do think he might be one of the sharpest comedic minds right now. It takes a certain kind of genius to make comedy that is simple and stupid.
]]>Sometimes you just have to watch a great movie. And then I found out Athena had never seen it!
]]>Truly perfect. This is some of the most fun I’ve had in a theater. This will never get old.
]]>yes, yes, and YES. Checks all the boxes for me. Perfect sick day movie.
]]>Under the weather gotta watch one of those movies there’s no reason that I haven’t seen yet ya know.
]]>This review may contain spoilers.
Stellar. Daddy Deaks painting some serious pictures in this one. The tone is intoxicating. To a modern audience the twists feel obvious but I feel like the final reveal isn’t supposed to be this huge shocking thing. It’s an inevitable truth that these people are trying to escape from. Bryce Dallas Howard is so good.
]]>Undeniable. He was a master right out of the gate. So much messier than anything else he’s done in such a good way! I love how polished get got over the years but wouldn’t it be fun to see him get down and dirty like this again.
]]>I saw this yesterday and I still can’t even formulate thoughts about it. Staggering and invigorating. Despite some flaws, I think that the overall effect of this is outstanding. Haven’t had a full body cinematic experience like this since Memoria. It truly put me at a complete loss for words. It’s consuming my every thought.
Visually stunning on 70. I think this should only be seen in a theater. Breathtaking images.
More thoughts to come if I get a chance to see it again.
]]>you know it really was not as bad as I was expecting it to be. There’s no right way to pull this kind of thing off but I appreciate the effort. I was glad it didn’t try to romanticize him too much and was very objective about what a twat he was. Granted I am a sucker for any movie about music and musicians so this could be a piece of shit who knows.
Monica Barbaro are you free for dinner
]]>Breathtaking. I can’t believe they were able to pull this off. If you told me this idea, I would say it would be gimmicky and boring. But this was transcendent. Completely hypnotizing. I immediately fell under its spell within the first few shots. Such a unique way to experience a story and a one of a kind relationship between character and audience. Stunning. A new entry into the canon of memory cinema that is so vivid and tactile it will stay with me for a long time.
]]>I know that I’m just a sucker for rom coms but I think this is really great! Perfectly stupid and fun. We need more rom coms that have more characters with intertwined plots rather than just one central couple. Crowe’s soundtrack is perfect as usual.
]]>Without a doubt one of the most ambitious and inventive movies I have ever seen in my life. I don’t know how anyone could see this vision so clearly and make it real. I am in awe of taking such a big swing. It takes a minute to acclimate but once you learn how to watch it you can really get completely absorbed into it. A few bits that felt a little YouTube era meme but for the most part brilliant visual gags and physical comedy. It had me saying wow and ohhhh out loud at the screen. Wildly impressive use of the limitations as an integral feature of the storytelling. I probably won’t stop thinking about this for a while.
]]>This was actually so fun. Some real diva performances and beautiful composition in every shot.
