Babygirl

what makes this work instead of following traditional narrative conventions, is the non-judgemental approach of its characters avoiding condescension and simplification. instead of sensationalizing their behaviors, their choices are used to delve into the intricate emotions that drive their characters’ actions. kidman and dickinson are such a complimentary pair, both bring a blend of vulnerability and authenticity to their roles. their on-screen chemistry elevates the film, making it a truly cinematic experience.

babygirl is anchored by a clever script that weaves together humor and unexpected twists, crafting a gripping story brought to life by a stellar ensemble. from beginning to end, the audience is hooked by the psychological games and power dynamics that are explored. at its essence, it serves as a meaningful commentary on modern gender power relations, focusing primarily on female empowerment.

one thing i think it excels at, in particular, is examining the complexities of female desire and the evolving dynamics of relationships and shedding light on the subtle interplay of power and vulnerability that defines them.

it's chaotic yet brimming with love and longing, beautifully imperfect yet still seemingly appealing! very excited to see what's in store for halina reijn
